But are those wires for the extension i no longer use,or for my actual phone line?
If your master socket is wired correctly (I've seen some dodgy wiring where the main line goes direct to terminal 2 & 5, rather than the A&B terminals on the back of the whole master socket).

Assuming its wired correctly, then yes the wires in the terminals of the master socket faceplate will be your extention wiring. If you do not need your extention wiring, then there is no need to have it wired in - but if that is the case, then there is no need for the new filtered faceplate you have purchased (unless you just wanted a compact design where you don't have to use an in-line filter).

As I said earlier, the best option would have been just to test out the new ADSL2+ connection in the test socket first to see if there is any improvement over and above the standard master socket - if there isn't any improvement, then you'll be wasting your money on the filtered faceplate.

    Hope that helps :j

    Thanks mhendo,

Well that was part of the idea, ive got a 1 year old who likes to get into anything he can - so the compact design does sound good.

So ive removed my extension on the line, and now plugged in my new faceplate and my stats have changed slightly from -

    Attenuation (dB) Local 47.5
    Remote 29.5
    SNR Margin (dB) Local 22.5
    Remote 11

    To -

    Attenuation (dB) Local 47
    Remote 29
    SNR Margin (dB) Local 26.5
    Remote 12.5

Not much of a change i know, but is the SNR Margin going up a bad thing?

Just need to wait until Wed now then i can post some speed test results.

been with bethere for about 7 months. Very happy with it. Free support as well, based in eastern europe. The accents aren't too bad, and they have always sorted out my problems. Though as usual some of them are more helpful and friendly than others.

Don't expect to get the full 24 megs. It won't happen, unless you live in the exchange

If you don't want an email address or any online content then i fully recommend them.

They also email out any up coming outages, and text you to let you know they have responded to any tickets raised through there online support. Which normally takes about 24 hours

That's a good thing - it means you have eliminated some of the noise/interference you were previously picking up (more than likely from the extention wiring). What you have just done should equate to an extra 2 or 3Mbps sync.

This ISP appears to done things !!!! about face compared to some other ISPs I could mention ie they started out badly and have since put on a really good show. Read about their performance here

Unfortunately for me, they're not enabling my exchange until June 2007. :(

That now leaves me with either Primus or EFH, the only other two that I was considering...
