Funnily enough....I heard the bloke next door yesterday moaning about my dog (you can hear clearly, the walls are paper thin), I could hear him saying 'thing is I know they're in and they're just leaving the dog in the garden (it was a nice day, better than being stuck in the house?) like he was on the phone to someone.

It was 7.20pm, and he (dog) was in the garden and barked for about 2 minutes, I was actually about to take him for a walk and went to have a wee first, then heard the neighbour so had to let the dog in so he wouldn't bark and I could have a wee!

I've not had the dog long and I don't want to jump up straight away every time he barks, he needs to learn that I won't. It was early, on a sunny day, and really what if someone was cutting their grass with a petrol mower? Using a strimmer? Doing some DIY? Is it only certain noises that can be moaned about?

I wouldn't mind but I never moan about them with their kid's sleepover noise at all hours, their surround speakers booming through the walls, their yappy little slipper of a dog, in fact their dog came in my house last week, did I moan? No I just laughed.

I must admit though, I did think what's he doing getting on the phone to someone, why doesn't he grow a pair and speak to me?
If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in :D

I feel your pain OP! One of my neighbours have yappy little dogs which bark non stop! I have dogs myself and I'm very tolerant, but its starting to get to me now. They sound like very small dogs and yap and bark like they are in pain. I have no idea which house they live at though.

I'm not the only one to get fed up, the other night the dogs were barking as normal (at 10.30pm) and I heard somebody shout "Would you shut your ffing dogs up!" Not the best thing to do, but we are getting fed up now!

If you have a good relationship with your neighbourse you need to talk to them. They might not have any idea that their dog is barking.

sharpei's are really cute i used to have one. they love human company, and dont like to be alone, not for one second, my one used to cry as soon as i left the door and shut up as soon as i got in.

their extremely intelligant, and easy to train, and throwing some treats over will do no end of injustice to yourself as he/she will learn fast that if i do this near the fence then a nice tasty treat falls over it and if you keep doing that i want to come over yours for tea, and then if i'm kept indoors from you im going to bark till my lungs come out and make you peek through the letter box to give me treats.

i wounder if your neighbour is willing to put a jumper or something in its kennel with their scent on it so it can sleep on it during the day to feel safe and secure.

If I were your neighbour I would want to know that my dog is barking non stop and annoying people.

I am lucky in that my dog rarely barks - only really if there is a need to - but some of the other dogs near me bark constantly and it drives me mad.

I checked a few times with my neighbour that he does not bark if left alone - he is rarely left alone and not for that long but obviously someone cannot be with him constantly! The neighbour assured me he did not only maybe if there was a knock at the door. I did say that if my dog did start barking a lot to let me know.

A new neighbour moved in in November and I have asked her a couple of times about my dog. She is elderly and at home almost all day every day so would hate for her to have to listen to him bark, but again, she assures me she rarely hears him only if there is a knock at the door or if there is someone around. She said usually she does not know if he is there or not which makes me happy.

If you get on with your neighbour I am sure they will be ok about it. Just try and bring it up in conversation if you can and don't make too big a deal about it.

It's a very young dog and obviously does not like being left. I know there are things you can do to stop/help this but am unsure what - I am sure someone else will post who will know more than me

Each time I've had a new dog or dogs from the rescue home, I've introduced the dog to the immediate neighbours very early on, and have asked for feedback if there is any howling, barking etc when we are away from the house.

This gives out 2 messages, 1) you are concerned about the dog, 2) you don't want the neighbours to suffer from a howling/barking dog.

If the dog does create when you go out, start with 10 minutes, and gradually increase the time - so long as the dog is confident you will come back and gets in to a routine up to being left for 4 hours without panicking.

Also it would be good to have a pooch friendly neighbour on hand that the dog is familiar with, and you trust to hold a house key, that you could phone if you were delayed.

This came to the fore when Mr Next Door was admitted to hospital, Mrs Next Door then fell and broke her leg and was carted off to same hospital. I had a key, and took their 2 dogs into mine overnight (for a week). Next doors dogs realised something was up, and although our dogs just about tolerate one of next doors, they made the best of the situation.

I don't have any advice as I don't have a dog, but that would utterly drive me insane, regardless of the time. What if you worked nightshift?

they are aware the dog barks - we've heard them on several occasions out the front talking to the neighbours, laughing at the 'bloody dog'. As I said as well, she barks literally from the minute they close the back door so they will be able to hear her when they go out the front door.

The dog hasnt been out today thank god, but OH is going to knock round before I go to hospital tomorrow just to remind them we will be bringing the baby home and we'll try keep the noise to a minimum;)

But I think what I will do as well, when I'm settled into a routine with the baby see if they want my dogwalker to take her out with my two. If they get on, I wouldnt mind watching her when they go out x

Nice neighbourly and common sense approach :T:T . Well done you!! :)

What breed is next doors? you may want to check with a young baby in the house, some are more tolerant than others with babes. (saying that, many years ago, my lab x bit my 18 month old, not in bite a viscious way, but a warning way - anyhow looked through the crack in the door and saw daughter tormenting the dog to react with a growl or a bite, just so she could tell tales on the dog, believe me I sorted my daughter out, not the dog).

she's a Sharpei - they have a 3 year old and 18 month old so she is used to kids. But my house is completely dog/baby proof. I've got a baby gate separating the living room and kitchen and they have full access to the garden :D

If they say no, then I'll get OH to mention the barking x

I can't think why any reasonable dog owner would turn down your offer.

Best of luck tomorrow by the way ;)
