Barking dog next door

Bear in mind as well that chucking chews over is likely to reinforce the behaviour, as doggy will probably very quickly learn that barking gets a tasty reward.:)
I was just going to say this, also does the neighbour agree to you doing this?If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0 -
They probably don't know it barks because they're out, so you could let them know.
With it only being a couple of hours and not at unreasonable times of the day though, is it worth saying anything? If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0 -
We had this problem with our neighbours dog but he is an ok person and did come and ask us if the dog was barking when he was gone.. it started when the dog was about 6mths old , he has a nice fenced in area thats concreted with all his toys, kennel, water etc but he was just lonely and he howled and whined for England . I did tell him eventually that someone was bound to call the RSPCA if it kept up as people were stopping outside the garden and looking over the fence . He got the two neighbours girls 12 and 14 to come into the yard and play with and take him 'walkies' and the barking died down , it took about 3mths for it to stop completely and now we hardly hear a peep out of him even if he is alone.. so I think he just grew out of it and got used to being alone#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

sorry please don't think I just keep chucking chews over for her, its literally to stop her barking for a bit - just thin rawhide chews. I've given her the chews before when we have seen them out on walks.
Zoetoes, it might not seem like a long time but she barks from the minute they shut the door to the minute they get back and its every day. I'm going to have a newborn baby anytime soon so its not fair really to have the dog barking all the time.
I'm also worried that people might think its our two dogs.
We haven't seen them today, but the dog has been out since 11am barking x:j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0 -

No I do understand, it is annoying. They probably don't realise it barks when they're out, maybe you should just say something like 'I hope you don't mind but I gave your dog a few chews throughout the say today because it just wouldn't stop barking' and they might ask if it always barks when they're out.If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0 -
I think you're (or DH) is going to have to bite the bullet and have a quiet word.
As has been mentioned, they probably don't even know the dog does this if it's only when they're out (my neighbour's dog is the same if she's out he's left in the house & howls the whole time).
If it's only when they're on the school run etc, then they should be able to take the dog with them!Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)

Forgot to say, I'd stop the chews too - rawhides shouldn't be given without supervision as dogs can choke on them and (a bit like them howling when you leave them the 1st few nights after bringing them home) the dog will soon grasp that bark = treat!

I can totally feel your pain. Our next doors dog does this - they know it does it but they just let it carry on. It even does it at 1.30 in the morning when they get home and let it out and leave it out there. It absolutely drives us insane. They have another dog but the other one does not bark.
My friend had this problem when their neighbour got a puppy, can I make a suggestion you do what she did. Talk with the neighbour about the dog missing them when they go out and ask if the dog would like to come and 'play' and then offer to pop in while she is at work/out and the dog is lonely, then if the dogs barking gets too bad they go and get him and he comes and plays with their dog for a bit.
I used to do this with my neighbours dog, she used to want some company when they were at work and would jump over the fence and sit at my back door so I would let her in with my dog. Would you mind having the puppy in your garden? But it would give you some peace so it was just a thought.
Does it only bark when they are not there?0 -
I would actually say that the dog has started barking all the time when they are left and because of his age you think he has seperation anxiety. Make it look as thought you are trying to help the dog.0

Late at night is a different thing altogether though, that is totally unacceptable at 1.30 in the morning!! :eek:If you're going to stalk me, while you're at it can you cut the grass, feed the dog & make sure I've got bread & milk in0
