If you're inferring I've got one then I haven't. It's embarrasing to say the least.

I don't think there's anything sinister going on. It's just a particularly supportive thread as people are trying not to spend any (more) money on toiletries. There's one each month (you've selected the March one).

Spot on Anna! :) It's a fast moving thread, but is also a challenge, so the thanks button gets used more than on other threads in order to show support to other members of the challenge.

    Hi

So you know, it's fine. Simply a lot of nice, supportive people.

As Quasar said, it's used in an entirely different way again on the Competition Time board. Compers use it to remind themselves which competitions they've already entered so they don't disqualify themselves by accidentally entering again.

    Andrea :)

Thanks Andrea! As I think you are aware, the toiletries thread moves so fast a lot of times in the month that thanking the posts is the easiest way of working out what you've read!

What a bizarre thread this is? Seems as though there are a lot of bitter people with precious little to do other than browse the boards for threads they can take a pop at, and then construct even more bizarre conspiracy theories! I bet you lot all thought Prince Phillip personally did for Diana as well, didn't you?! :rotfl: I can categorically assure you that there is no "pact" of any description regarding thanks - in fact I suspect like most participants on the thread I rarely even look at my Thanks-count so it seems you lot are far more interested in it than we are?!

I must say the toiletries thread is one of the nicest around- everyone is so polite and there is no sniping or backbiting. Also, a lot of the comments in that thread can be seen to be product recommendations- when someone uses a toiletry item they say whether they would buy it again (WIBA?/WNBA) so people might be clinking the thanks button for the product 'review'.

Seriously? You took time out to make this thread? I love the toiletries thread, really helps me out and they're all really lovely. Just leave people to thank each other.

I don't think it's weird. I'm not biased obviously, because in different threads I post in, I thank in different ways. Being a member of the challenge, and it being a fast-moving thread, I use the thanks as a marker of where I have read up to, I use it when useful or helpful information has been provided and I also use it to show others on the thread that their posts, no matter what they say, are appreciated.

You must be believing in conspiracy theories I suspect, in thinking we have a pact to thank each other. The number of thanks I have or give has never occurred to me at all.

All I know is that that particular thread is one of the most helpful, supportive and kind threads I have ever particpipated in (and that I have amazing feet because of it:D). And if I want to thank every single post, I will.

    Rant alert...

What the hell is going on in this thread? How can every single post be greeted with 15-20 thanks?

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/comment/42322258#Comment_42322258

Even an inocuous 8 word comment by PudseyDB "LOL - where the heck do you keep it all?????????????????????" got fifteen seperate thanks (nearly one thank per question mark)

I suggest that the (mostly) girls in that thread have a pact and are abusing the availability of the thank function!

    Rant over.

Seriously? It bothered you enough that you posted a rant about it?

    Sheesh!

I don't think you can abuse the thanks button, given that there are no rules for useage.

It's no skin off your nose is it? What difference does it make to your life if a group of ladies support each other in their joint efforts to save money?

I don't know what to say really, except that people's thanking rationale is personal. Everybody's different, and some of us are different on different boards.

I don't thank anything mean-spirited and mingey, but apart from that I'm a generous thanker. I would thank everybody all the time but you can't do that in DT.

In any case, I can assure you that there is no sinister pact that I know of. (What on earth would be the point?)

I'm on that challenge. I don't say much, but I do tend to read everything, and thank everyone as I go along so everyone knows I'm still participating, and to be friendly. Other people don't thank everyone, but they thank funny posts, posts with reviews in them, kind posts, interesting posts and supportive posts.

    What's wrong with that?

Every post that keeps the thread going is a supportive and helpful post on that thread. Every time I get a message that there is a new post it reminds me of what my goals are within that challenge.

I suppose in general, I post support. Either the "I agree" type of support or the fluffy kind.

But honestly, it doesn't matter, does it? There's no right or wrong way to use the thanks button.
