The very highest thanks counts such as Lakshmi7's are not trivial - they are given in the competitions board where some users post lots of valuable competitions after spending time and effort looking for them etc. (no, I'm not one of them).
Be careful who you open up to. Today it's ears, tomorrow it's mouth.
  • Hi

So you know, it's fine. Simply a lot of nice, supportive people.

As Quasar said, it's used in an entirely different way again on the Competition Time board. Compers use it to remind themselves which competitions they've already entered so they don't disqualify themselves by accidentally entering again.

    Andrea :)

For many people its merely a marker in a long thread as to which post they have reached :)

I would like to point out that my thanking of each of the posts above me is because I agree with each comment ... I don't really get the sickly sweet 'let's all thank anyone that says 'lol' or (((hugs)))' either ... ;)

Exactly,I hate the thanks system as often its not used to give thanks
    just some points scoring exercise
I would prefer MSE to wipe it and the post counts out
just keep the medal system/join date to give an idea of how active and long term a member is

It could be worse, like thanking your own posts. :D

I think Fifer put it well.

A man is known by the company he keeps or who he's thanked by.

There is a collective on here that if one of them posted rotfl, pmsl, lol.....how did you do that ?, 20 thanks would ensue from the usual suspects.

Some of them don't even post sentances......
