I believe that the rover 75 was the only one actually designed and introduced whilst they were owned by BMW, and on that basis, K series engine aside, means that they are better engineered than the other rovers.
I also personally believe that they have a more classy feel to them, seats, trim, dashboard etc. Although some might say that they have a dated look.
But I agree with one of the other posters the Mondeo with the 2.0 tdi engine is a joy to drive and I would look to see If I could find one of these for the same money. Of course you then have the dual mass flywheel issues to contend with :-(
For what it's worth of the two, the 75 would be my choice.0 -

The mk3 was much better than anything at the time it came out in 2001, the fact it was in production for years tells it all.
I would point out that a Jaguar Xtype is a Mondeo mk3 underneath.
Of the two choices given by the OP, it would be Rover 75,all day long.
They are very underrated and have a very loyal following, expect values to stay firm on the Rover 75 diesel, especially if you buy an estate.0 -

Yes Most modern diesels do have a dmf.
However if you google dmf problems there are loads of hits relating to mondeo 2.0ltr tdci's and their clutch/DMF failing. I don't believe the same problem exists with the 1.6 diesel.
That said I've had loads of mondeo 2ltr diesels as hire cars and they still put a smile on my face. Great performance, great fuel economy great to drive, loads of room hard to believe that they are a ford.
I'm not rubbishing the mondeo, I'm only highlighting a known issue. In the same way as the well documented K series head gasket problems.
The op asked for opinions between the rover 75 & the Citroen C5 and between the two the 75 diesel is the better car and unless I'm mistaken no known DMF issues. Although I'm sure someone will quickly point out any errors I've made with that statement. lol.0 -

The Tdci DMF issue onky really a big problem on the early models.
They fitted a modified one on later cars.
My current Mondeo is on the original clutch and DMF at 160k plus.
I believe another poster also has a high mileage Mondeo on the original DMF.
I think the sheer number of Mondeos that sold in the Tdcis early life has meant that its problems have been pushed into peoples minds.
I know people that had issues with DMfs on VW and many other cars.
To blame one make of car due to an issue that affects all modern diesels is a bit harsh, if not a little narrow minded.0 -
