Help needed - Debenhams store card

RA1978
Hi everyone,
I am in the process of trying to claim back my PPI on a Debenhams store card(Santander Cards) My claim has reached the Ombudsman stage. The Ombudsman have written back to me explaining that because the sale of the insurance took place before Santander were covered by their jurisdiction they cannot take on my case.
However the Ombudsman has said that if I can provide details of the underwriter of the policy I may be able to claim against them.
Does anyone know which company provided the PPI for Debenhams store cards back in February 1997 ? Or does anyone know how I can find this info out ? I dont have any of my original insurance documents.
Any help would be really appreciated
Thanks

Hi there
Many of us have been advised of this direction, so what you would do now is write to the lender, of whoever is responsible of the business now and ask them to supply the Payment Protection Policy details to you by post. (these are normally requested for separately, as they are not always enclosed with your loan/card documents when you received them.
When you receive these, the details of the insurer/underwriter are enclosed, you then pursue these, and if they reject, you can make your complaint to the FOS, as these were possibly regulated.
Good luck. The one and only "Dizzy Di"0 -
Hi Di,
Thank you for your advice.
I will let you know how I get on.0 -
I think it was possibly MBNA.0
-
Its Financial Insurance Company, now known as Genworth.
Ponbeam, MBNA are not an insurer.0 -
I used to have a Debenhams Store card (big mistake as it turned out) several years ago. At that time it was operated by GE Capital Bank (also known as GE Money).
Might be worth trying there for more information?0 -
I am aware that MBNA is not a insurer. I was talking about who possibly managed the card !!0

hi,
I also opened a debenhams store card in 1998 and still have the original document I signed when i opened the account up in store.
This is a quote from the actual T&Cs of the agreement :-
WHO ARRANGES MY COVER??
Account cover is arranged by GE CAPITAL BANK LIMITED as agent of your insurers:
Financial Insurance Company Limited and Financial Assurance Company Limited, member companies of Consolidated Financial Insurance, whose registered office is:
VANTAGE WEST,
GREAT WEST ROAD,
BRENTFORD,
MIDDLESEX,
TW8 9AG
I hope the above is of some help to you, but I am currently dealing with SANTANDER (who now have taken over the handling of the store card) and have had a response from them regarding my claim, so cant really see them not being able to deal with yours!!
good luck0 -
In 1998, the GISC code did not exist so intermediaries, who would be deemed responsible for the sale (whether or not it was missold) would not be covered by FOS unless they were members of the banking/insurance/building societies ombudsman scheme at the time.
Therefore, I think you will find you will be unable to pursue a successful complaint, I'm afraid.0 -
Thanks to all your replies
I wrote to Santander again asking for them to supply me with the information I require, as usual they were totally unhelpful and just sent a copy of their final response letter again !
ripoffbanks01 - I will send this information off to the FOS to see if they can do anything
I will post an update once I have one
Thanks0 -
Just a quick update, the FOS wrote back to me after I sent them a letter explaining that I had the details of the underwriter of the policy.
They basically said they had contacted Financial Insurance Company Limited and informed them I had a complaint. They (FICL) will be writing to me in the next few days to obtain details of my complaint. Once they have these details they have 8 weeks to respond, if I am not happy the FOS said they will look into my case.
Fingers Crossed !0
