    Hi all,
weekly shop done, came in £2 over budget at £37 but that included Easter eggs, and the fact I had to buy real calpol rather that supermarket stuff :( so I am quite pleased anyway.

I have completed my banking, and will manage to save £3,000 in March, which is due partly to the fact I was rubish in Feb and didn't bank anything properly, and then had to bail out our joint account which had been slowly reducing.

Anyway, the £3,000 I have saved takes me over my target of £33,000 which I wanted to reach by May. So I now have £34,740 saved up ready for ....whatever!

In the short term we are staying here, but we may need the money for moving in the future. No matter what happens, my frugal ways are too ingrained, and I can't just waste money - I have to save it!

Sleeping not going well. Nurse back on Monday to give more advice - controlled crying didn't work for us.

Today I plan to clean the house and I had hoped to plant my potatos and wash my car, but that depends on thw weather which is looking a bit grim! I am invited to tea with neighbours which will be lovely, and oh back late tonight yey!

Well I didn't get told off from the Nurse, she agreed that the controlled crying was just too much for lo, and that more gradual approach is needed!!

All is well here. Oh has had a bit of a work disaster, so I have been trying to do all the childcare and tutoring by myself - I haven't had to cancel anything, but I did have to bring him with me last night - he was very good!! I have also had to pay the childminder £10 to keep him tonight until 6.30, but thats not too bad, I just don't like him being there so long. Hopefully things will be back to normal next week.

I have got lots of work to be getting on with, and I have another midwife appointment tomorrow - it has come round really quick!

I thought the 12 and the 20 week scans took an age to come round too. I have just had my 25 week appointment though - it seems to have sped up since the 20 week scan! Only 15 weeks to birth (or 61 working days to maternity leave) for me to go. Not that I am counting or anything :rotfl:

    Hi summerday,

I just logged in this morning to check Martin's Wednesday tips (can't get my email at work) and I thought I'd better update - nice to hear from you!!

It would be far too melodramatic to say that I have had a breakdown, but over a period of time I had just gotten so down with my life. I was working all the hours god sends to raise cash to pay for an imaginary home that we may or may not need to buy in the future, and I was missing what really mattered - my family and my sanity!!

I have since been taking things really easy, I have only been tutoring when oh is there to look after the lo, taken some weekends off, and I have taken things a lot easier at work, and I have spent loads of time with lo.

I cringe when I think of the title of this thread; I don't need a big house, I need my family and my health - and a lot of you had been hinting at this all along!

Lately, I have been living a lot more simply. I have plans to really declutter the house to make it a more relaxing place. I have sorted the garden so I have a great big strip for me to grow a lot more of my own veg - LO and I can mess around outside for hours! My username was earthgirl because I love the smell of earth! I am ditching situations which leach the life out of me ( possibly work will go entirely, I haven't decided yet). I am eating a lot more simple fresh home cooked food and just enjoying life!

I would like to save up an extra £100,000 - £150,000 in case we need to move cause of catchment areas, but I plan to do this in a sustainable way, and have a lot of fun and happiness along the way.

So maybe, in time, I will start a thread on my new, more simple approach to paying for this second chunk of mortgage, but for now I think I will stop posting, and just relax and enjoy reading some of your dairies instead.

    Love to all,
    Earthgirl xx

That was a lovely post, earthgirl :) I think you're absolutely right to do what you're doing now, sounds like you've been trying to do far too much lately & something had to give.

Your new simple life sounds great & I hope you enjoy all of it.

Take care of yourself & your (growing) family.
