OP, are you sure you cant sit tight until you are repossessed and then get homed by the council?
It will probably be a long time until you are able to get a mortgage again and this is your only chance of getting a secure council tenancy. Unless you are literally going to be on the street I would do everything possible to try and make this happen.
Difficulty renting with pets is one of a very long list of inadequacies of private rentals. You dont want to find yourselves a half dozen 6 month ASTs down the road wishing you had tried to get a council house back when you were repoed.0 -

I've nothing against dogs at all. I rented not that long ago and the LA we used were really bad. They told us that the owner wanted to redecorate and recarpet before moving in. We did'nt want this as we have a young child and accidents happen. When we came to move on they tried to bill us for damage to the carpet, which, firstly was going to replaced and secondly the damage was already there! Luckily we had taken photos so not much came of it. Please be careful if you have never rented before take photos etc and check the washing machine ours was really badACHIEVING THE AIM SINCE.........0 -
Hi katy
just wondering if you had found anywhere to rent yet? try not get upset by some of the horrible posts on here. some people can be so nasty and feel the need to impose their ignorant opinions on you.
i get so annoyed with people using the words "get rid of" - to me getting rid of something is throwing away something that is horrible/caused you pain/stress etc. not rehoming a much loved pet.

Just to add my quick spanner......I'm a LL (just one little house) & our tenancy agreement clearly states "NO PETS" but.....our current tenants look after a big dog quite often (told me about but didn't ask if they could - they keep it in the garden (it's a big garden) & the conservatory) & a hamster!
They seem a reasonable couple, keep the place well maintained, mow the lawn, etc. I have no problem with it. I have a deposit so if the house smells of dirty dog when they leave (which I very much doubt) I cam use their money to clean the house :-)

I was also going to suggest trying a private landlord.
In my last rented place (I was there 4 1/2 years) there was a "no pets" clause in the TA but when I asked about having a cat they were fine with it. I had been there for a couple of years at that point so they already knew that I was a good tenant, but my point is that often private landlords will be able to use their discretion and make a decision based on your personal circumstances whereas a letting agent may not.
I agree with some of the other posters that having your house repossessed is probably a bigger concern to a potential landlord. Do you have a guarantor who will support you?0 -
i have a guarentor. im just getting the last bit of my deposit together now as i want to be able to offer as big a deposit as i can so to try and persuad a ll. the la i spoke to has made a few inquires to have a few viewings with pet friendly ll's. the move will hopefully happen soon. also phoned a few that were in the paper and they said no pets soon as i asked and wouldnt be persuaded, but will keep trying. also a board popped up on a house i pas everyday on my way to work, its a farm house but all teh farm building have been knocked down and im guessing the fields are not included but thought that may be worth a try as its rural i may have a hope of getting my dog in there - im going to phone in the morning0
