There are landlords out there who don't mind dogs, we do have a huge rottie and our landlord is fine about him. Good luck, I hope you get somewhere nice soon.0

This is something that annoys me, the adverts which say "no pets" or even "no children"....
I saw was a farmhouse for rent - needing redecorated anyway but it still said "no pets". Surely with rural properties, pets or animals come with the territory... especially farmhouses.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0 -
Some days you're the dog..... most days you're the tree!0

just to gove yousome hope- we are new landlords and all the letting agents we approached said it was their blanket policy for no smokers / pets / housinng benefit.
a year ago I wouldn't have been able to rent what is now my house!
we told them we would be happy to consider all three - consider anyone on an individual basis rather than narrow out whole groups of people.
they left their exclusion policy on the advert, but anyone who specifically asked if they hd properties that would take pets were referred to us.
we now have a labrador (and its owner!) as tenants and all seems well0 -

OT's reply but important imo:
You are the letting agent's principal, you tell them what your policy is.
If they do not advertise according to your instructions you tell them to change the advert or you sack them. This is important because by advertising as "no pets" many potential tenants with pets won't bother calling at all.0 -
As a LL i don't accept pets (except golfish) anymore - the last time i allowed a tenant with a dog There was £1500 worth of damage to the house.
1. Ate the sofa
2. Scratched all the doors
3. Dug up all the newly planted shrubs
4. Chewed a hole in the middle of the laminate floor in the lounge
5. Chewed the stair newel post
6. Chewed several door linings
Have you any idea how much hassle changing a newel post is !
Still don't know to this day wether it was the dog or the tenant that was so hungry but not taking the chance again.
Like others i think the repo will cause more problems than the dog - it maybe a good idea to line up a gaurantor to offer as part of the deal.My posts are my opinion which is neither right nor wrong.0 -
katygeorge - why only go through LAs? Put up your own "wanted" advert, and contact the local LL association for contact info for LLs who self manage their properties.0

I only pick homes that dont say no pets on teh adverts and they still say no, dont even bother cant have it with a dog. Ive offered a larger deposit plus to pay for cleaning, carpet cleaning and fumigation when i leave and still im getting nowhere. My house is being repossesed and im getting very stressed about having to live in a total dive, the concil wont help untill being homeless looks like a possibility plus the houses they showed me in there office where so bad i wouldnt let my dog live there let alone me and my husband. I know that makes me sound like such a snob but im talking real dives. My husband has said we should go to a different letting agent and say nothing about the dog (still only go for places that dont say "no pets" because that would be taking the mick a bit if i went for them) and then when we get found out say its my dads dog and he had to give her up due to a medical condition. Im being told i cant be evicted for having a dog by cab but after reading a tenancy agrement they do say they can terminate the agrement for no reason with a months notice. feel totall stuck as i need somewhere to live but giving up my dog is not even a possibilty
And advice would be very helpfull, sorry ive gone on a bit
Hi I rent with a dog and a cat at the moment. My last 3 rentals have been private (not through agent), maybe try gumtree or keep an eye out in newsagent windows etc.
I've found its easier to speak to landlord direct about pets than to go through an agency. That may also help in terms of credit check etc. Only 1/4 rentals I have been in has asked me to do a credit check (all rentals were all from private ads).
Also before moving into my last house, my prospective landlady asked to visit our then house- I suppose to see that the dog hadn't eaten the place! She wasnt keen on pets, but once she saw that ours were well behaved, she was happy to let us have the dog there.
Good luck!0 -
Obviously, if you are having problems getting a home with your dog. May I suggest getting rid of the dog, therefore one less mouth to feed and more homes to choose from.ACHIEVING THE AIM SINCE.........0
