  • I'm right in the path of this one too and we were VERY badly hit by the one in May. Have to say it hasn't occured to me to prep for it. :o

At least there is a warning this time. First thing I knew about the last one was taking the children to school and finding boats washed up everywhere. :rotfl:

I'll probably take down my hanging baskets but that'll be the extent of my prep.:D Our house is surrounded by trees but I can't prevent them falling on us. I do have extra insurance in place for damage if they do. ;)
  • Had no idea there was a storm brewing, will make sure I'm prepared lighting wise in case the electricity goes. Thanks for the heads up OP, hope everyone's alright up in Scotland.

really hoping that it does not do too much damage as DD is at Bestival, IOW, and they were saying on our "local" news, which incidentally covers the IOW, that they were expecting high winds and rough seas on Sunday night / Monday. Might need the sick bags on the way home then:eek::eek::eek:
I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Well if anyone remembers Michael Fish saying 'dont worry dear - we dont have hurricanes in Britain' and the hurricane that hit that night! I was in my static caravan down on the South Wales Coast! Ive never seen or felt or heard anything like it! The caravan thought it was a hovercraft!!! but the tethers held though. But it was so noisy with the wind you couldnt hear anyone yelling in your ear! the leccy flickered like heck but didnt go off. and next day the gas hookup was fine.
I got home though to find my garden wall had blown down and Tiles missing off the roof. no other damage (everything moveable is NOT left outside when we went away). We thought we had got off lightly!
  • i remember the 87 hurricane - what a night that was - the village i lived in at the the time lost so many people - it was devastating :(

many deaths arose from people driving country roads - getting stuck between fallen trees - then trying to navigate alternative routes or walk cross country to their destinations - many just did not make it unfortunately :( i think we lost over a dozen firmen that night too - all very sad :(

when there is gale warnings now - i make sure that my vehicle has adequate tools - for a mini escape - i know that not everybody has a chainsaw at hand to use but an axe, pruning or bow saw even a pair of loppers - just might help you get out of a sticky situation - blankets, water, first aid kit etc in the car are also advisable

stay safe everybody - i think i will batten down the hatches - and stay indoors ;)

Seriously, winds up to 80mph, not exactly a hurricane. Bit of a panic people :rotfl:

(and we have trees, I can see over 100 out my window and I'm in Glasgow)
