Depends how far away from the centre of the blast you are.0 -
I never used to store much - probably just a couple of weeks worth of groceries, however that is all changed I reckon we could live for 6-8 weeks now without buying anything - quite proud of this actually!!!!Every days a School day!0

Liking this thread!
Im lucky enough to live close to town. Morrisons is roughly a 5 min walk and rest of town about 10minsbut i still like to keep a well stocked kitchen especially when it comes to winter and the threat of snow!
I have 4yr DD to think about and dont like dragging her out into the cold unless i really really have to.
I always stock extra milk, bread, pasta, potatoes, tinned toms, tinned fish, soups and a selection of frozen goods like veggies and chips (i know but sometimes i just cant be bothered :rotfl:) when they mention bad weather is on its way but my kitchen and freezer are usually bursting with meals anyway,i just like to be sure.
Other than that i guess mainly candles for power cuts (i have a gas cooker and hob)....oh and obv wine!!Emergency Savings #73 = £1,500/£2,000

I tend to have the makings of a fwe loaves of bread and other baked goods, a couple of tins of evaporated milk (mostly for baking but could use for milk if need be) and plenty of general storecupboard items on hand.
We use a fair few nightlights anyway, and an open fire, but I also have a good stash of long candles (we rarely have power out, but I grew up in the countryside where we DID get lots of powercuts). After last winter, we have 4x2l bottles of water put away (Mr T basics) and the water butt out the back has enough for washing and loos for a while.
What I need to make sure of is dishwasher salt (had some but not enough) and replenishing the de-icer stocks this week also. Oh, and refill my car with petrol! (have some still, but will need a refill anyway and don't want to be stuck with none).GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

we have a store cupboard full of dried pulses, tinned tomatoes and various beans. this combined with various bits in the freezer usually suffices0

Wine - that was the ONE thing we were after forgetting to restock - and I regretted that one!GC 2010 €6,000/ €5,897

it is a real godsend to have a well stocked storecupboard just now. Seeing and hearing about the terrible fall injuries in a and e and many very nasty ones to the back of the head when feet leave the road. So no I make no apologies to anyone. Dh and I are safe indoors and here is where we will stay
I spent a couple of cosy hours this morning rustling up a meatless lasagne and an eves pudding, a bit of this and a bit of that from my cupboards. Not textbook but who cares. Next year I will dehydrate foods during the whole summer as the dried foods are safest in case of power cuts and they take up so little room. I used dehydrated oranges, lemons, porcini, onions and peppers in the past couple of days. Wonderful0
