Well I've had an early shop at Asda this morning and picked up some bits and pieces for hurricane/winter prep. It was all on my winter prep list so I'm happy and the freezer is stuffed
I've also been out in the garden and put away the furniture and bits and pieces that can be blown about. I've been driven in by a torrential downpour but I've only got a couple of things left to do. All this was on my original winter prep list but now being done a couple of weeks early
I'm supposed to be on an early flight to Bristol on Monday morning for my long awaited holiday so keep your fingers crossed that I make it
I'm also a bit more than annoyed at the people who upset wilding. She was only trying to help...shame on you :mad:As my dad always used to say 'Just because you've got the money doesn't mean to say you have to spend it all at once'0 -
Haribo he just stands mooning out of the window when he can't get out - willing the weather away
. I recall the pics of the shore with you in the local paper - we had boats on the rocks too where they weren't out of the water early enough - there are still a few bobbing in the bay today.
You're right we do get weather like this every year, although its earlier this year for us, but we don't usually hear it on the news do we?
Mar last winter was very odd - its the first year we've had long spells of snow since I moved to Argyll 26 years ago - I moved from Yorkshire where we got 'real' snow every year, and was bitterly disappointed that it just rained all the time

It is very gusty now in the sw and very warm, something is definitely brewing. My planters are tucked in now and I am actually getting washing done as you have to grab the chances of it drying this month. If you have a little greenhouse then make sure there is something heavy at the bottom, that is what I have been doing today. Good luck to those n of the line0

I'm high up and on the east side WCS, we get snow every year, and we rarely get mist or fog like you. Also your midges are a class apart. LOL0

I'm actually getting worried at the lack of info on this in my area. I live along the river Clyde, a fair bit b4 it reaches Glasgow..... we do tend to get weather bad here, its raining cats n dogs just now, the wind is bad, yet their is a hockey game going on across the street from me!
Just had a quick check outside, everything is in the shed or house....
I need to go get toilet roll and milk, everything else we can survive without (cupboards fridge n freezer are stocked) might make some cakes and biscuits to keep us going throughout the next couple of days.
Dam my boiler busting when I can't get anyone cheap out to fix it.

Well I was grateful for the reminder and info from Wilding but couldn't post as was reading via my phone.
There's loads of stuff still in my garden that gets moved about by the wind and if it's stronger than normal tomorrow and Mon the stuff out there could've caused some damage (e.g. kids slide, toys and DH's gardening equipment -he's a messy sod!) so I'm sending him out there later to tidy eveything up asap (earlier than planned coz of Wilding's post).0 -
It was a huge shock for folks here Mar last year - we often get snow for a day or two, then it goes to slush and that's it, but last year we were 6 - 8 weeks of frozen snow, the roads were treacherous, supplies were low as the Rest and be Thankful landslid again - it really had a huge impact. Plus we couldn't get to the bigger shops up near Haribo as the road between us is poor at the best of times.
Yes the midgies are super-powered. Not so bad where I am here as on the island, but pretty nifty, especially when it's damp - its those that drive you in rather than the weather - easier in winter as you can be out gardening in the rain0 -
I am just charging up 2 lanterns and a torch and ds and kindle were charged up yesterday. Freezer is packed full to the brim so would last a long power cut. If it weren`t so packed then I would have plastic bottles and boxes of water in there freezing up to fill space. Candles and matches are together. As always but just checking and making sure today0
