Seriously, winds up to 80mph, not exactly a hurricane. Bit of a panic people :rotfl:

(and we have trees, I can see over 100 out my window and I'm in Glasgow)

Got loads here in Aberdeen too :D

Errm, hurricane strength is force 12 - anything over 74mph... so 80 is definitely hurricane.

But hey, don't take my word for it. I've only, ya know, seen a tree trunk go through someone's lounge window once...

No, please don't think that wilding. I'm grateful for the list you wrote. I'm in the east, in a city, so hope we're ok but my relations are farmers further north and I do worry about them.

Exactly, over 74mph is 'Hurricane force' but over latitudes this far north and this cold, the storm is not structured the same way as an 'Atlantic Hurricane' (Tropical Cyclone), so it's a 'European Winter/Wind Storm' (Extra-Tropical Cyclone).... I think...

She's still 'Hurricane' Katia right now, Catergory 1.

I'm too new to be allowed to post the link to America's National Hurricane Center :(

  • Like I say, wondering why I bothered. The Internet is just full of argumentative so-and-so's sometimes, and this really was my last straw today.

Don't let them get you down. I appreciate your effort and I'm sure many other people do to ;)

Don't get cross wilding. :( Ardnamurchan is always going to bear the brunt of these weather fronts so you do well to be prepared. :)

I wish you hadn't deleted all your posts as I enjoyed reading them. :(

As wilding_arms has chosen to delete her original post, I've merged this thread with the existing one about coping in an emergency situation.

    b. What parts of Britain are they saying could be affected?
