HTC Desire S: Value for money?
I really want a smartphone becasue I like the idea of being able to surf the internet when out and about, and to be able to do email on the move. At the moment though I am running an old school Nokia which costs me £10 a month for 300 mins and unlimited texts. I normally use about 200 mins and 100 texts a month.
The most sensible deal I can find on the Desire S is with O2 for £27 a month which has plenty of minutes and texts and 500Mb data.
I can afford it, but at nearly 3 times the cost I wonder if it is worth it, just to have a shiney phone that lets face it, in 24 months time I probably won't lust after anything like I do now! I am trying to save a house deposit too.
Don't ask why, but I simply don't want any other smartphone, I've seeen friends' Desires and really like it.
What to do...:)

The newest phones, like the new/newest cars, never are a good value for money. I am happy with my Desire (not S) that I've bought in Jan and that is still available at a lower price and/or on shorter contracts than 'S'.0 -
Desire S is £18 something at Carphone warehouse in store, I was in a branch last night...0

Just had a look, but its only 100 mins and 100Mb data which won't be enough for me. I'd prefer to stay with O2 as well, but ultimately signing up to spend £648 (24 times £27) is a lot of money.Debt: September 28th 2009 £0!!!!! Finally!

I was in a similar situation...
Theres hardly any difference between the Desire and the newer Desire S.
So what I did is reduce my monthly rate and then bought one in new condition (Desire) for £200.0 -
This could be me - £10 a month with Orange, 300 mins unlimited text, and a 5 year old nokia that worked perfectly. But I wanted a smartphone for no reason except I like the...finally last weekend went to orange and got one - they have lots of the HTC phones on offer for packages from £15 a month, but I wanted a little bit more so in the end I was looking at the HTC for £20...but then they have the iphone for £25 so I went for that. its nice and I feel great so having finally caught upwith the rest of the worlds technology! If you can afford it go for it.0

Hee hee! SOunds just like me, except I haven't taken the plunge yet!
Am now looking at refurbished Desires, but really think I should get a Desire S since its slicker and has a better battery. Not many refurbed Desire Ss around though!Debt: September 28th 2009 £0!!!!! Finally!

Just saw this on HDUK and thought of you:
"Newer HTC Desire S Running Android 2.3 Gingerbread, Free Phone, 1000 Texts, TRULY UNLIMITED INTERNET, 300 Minutes For £18 Per Month @ TalkMobile Plus £55 Quidco Cashback!"0 -
if you can afford one and want one then get one. it only becomes a problem if you cannot afford it.
the 500 mb you mention may not be enough????? pretty low in my opinion, i would say at least 750mb or 1gb.0 -

Interesting. I've been looking at phones for days now and had not come across Talkmobile yet. They are very cheap! Are they any good though?
I see a few people complaining about customer service on here but can't say that really puts me off. As long as I get a signal and there are no 'hidden' charges I'd be happy.Debt: September 28th 2009 £0!!!!! Finally!
