HTC Desire S: Value for money?

Interesting. I've been looking at phones for days now and had not come across Talkmobile yet. They are very cheap! Are they any good though?
I see a few people complaining about customer service on here but can't say that really puts me off. As long as I get a signal and there are no 'hidden' charges I'd be happy.
Talkmobile is part of Carphone Warehouse, and uses the Vodafone network - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talkmobile
My wife bought an HTC Wildfire from them last week on their £12/month tariff via a CPW shop - definitely all above board.0 -
Sometimes not to much but if you took your contract out throught top cash back or quidco you would get a bit back. Hope this helps0

I was in the same position as you 18 months ago but then traded up to a smart phone and I will now never go back.
I think basically if you use a computer a lot for emails and web browsing etc then you use a smart phone. It also replaces an ipod, digital camera and also good for games of you get bored on public transport!
However if you just want to use it for making phone calls then stick with a dumb phone.
500mb is sufficent data for a first time user in my view and the HTC Desire S is a great phone.0 -
http://www.mobilephonechecker.co.uk/mobile-contract-deals/ has plenty of deals at the £15+ £99 for phone or £20 and free phone which should meet your requirements.0

This could be me - £10 a month with Orange, 300 mins unlimited text, and a 5 year old nokia that worked perfectly. But I wanted a smartphone for no reason except I like the...finally last weekend went to orange and got one - they have lots of the HTC phones on offer for packages from £15 a month, but I wanted a little bit more so in the end I was looking at the HTC for £20...but then they have the iphone for £25 so I went for that. its nice and I feel great so having finally caught upwith the rest of the worlds technology! If you can afford it go for it.
Which iPhone did they have for £25?? Did you have to pay for the handset?

I've got the iPhone 3GS and my contract is up for renewal this month on o2 (i'm tied in with them as I'm on a DMP). I'm seriously considering get rid of my iPhone and getting a Desire S as i don't like the restrictions apple put on you. For instance i have a nightmare updating my phone on my OH pc due to it not being my own pc - what difference should it make its only an update?! The amount of times i've lost my whole iPod collection on it because i've clicked the wrong button (to write everything over on it) by mistake has annoyed me once too much - i think its goodbye iPhone

The only thing that bothers me about the Desire S is the poor battery life. Its difficult to get a good feel on the internet for how long I can expect it to last in normal conditions. Some report as little as 4 or 5 hrs use and others say it lasts 2 days. It would have to do at least 36 hrs to be of use to me really.Debt: September 28th 2009 £0!!!!! Finally!
[strike]March 30th 2008 £5,350[/strike]
[strike]September 29th 2008 £7,800[/strike]
[strike]January 1st 2007 £21,000[/strike] (Max debt)
Original DFD target was end Aug 20090 -
36 hours of use/browsing? Such smartphones simply don't exist because all screens are very power hungry. 2 days is for standby and a few short calls, not for use/browsing. If the screen is permanently on most phones are unlikely to last more than 5 hours. Calls, internet and GPS connection require even more extra power. So do some apps.0

I simply don't understand what kind of question it is.
The newest phones, like the new/newest cars, never are a good value for money. I am happy with my Desire (not S) that I've bought in Jan and that is still available at a lower price and/or on shorter contracts than 'S'.
thats what i did(though i bought before the S was out but knew it was coming)
shorter contract,lower monthly cost and £100+ cashback0
