Used to love driving along snake pass at cat and fiddle, would go via that route when going from wigan/liverpool area to belper instead of stoke / m6. Cameras have made it far less fun, I blame the bikers who seem unable to steer properly.

Saying that, trying to achieve the 50mph average on the windy bits is some challenge, even in a hire car.

And the speed is taken between each gate, for obvious reasons.

I'd blame it on the bikers who think they are Captain Kirk and ride at warp factor ten.

The Snake Pass is the A57 from Glossop to Sheffield, I'm not sure you'd combine that with the Cat and Fiddle?

As for cameras, remember that when your speedo says 55mph, it can be anything down to 50mph. Use a Satnav for a more accurate speed reading.

    Here we go again. :j

Don't bike riders just cover their woefully inadequately sized number plates, when riding along that road anyway?

I've seen 'em with folding ones (controlled from the handlebars) which show a 'cheeky' message when folded.

    Good on 'em ;)

But, as I understand it, 10% is the allowable margin of error on a speedo. It's certainly about that for mine.

    Only overreading, not underreading.

An odd stance to take. Why do you feel they are justified in doing that? Do you not give a damn about the lives they put in danger?

Cameras are there to make money, end of story.

What a stupid and arrogant statement don't speed and they will not make any money, they are there for a reason to help cut down speed and reduce the risks of accidents, one day you may be involved in an accident caused by some idiot speeding and losing control, maybe then you will see the proper reason why cameras are set up at accident black spots.

Yours is the stupid statement - I'm assuming you can drive? In that case, you have broken the speed limit at some point (don't bother to deny it as you'll simply be lying).

So you felt, at some point, that you were ok to break the speed limit. Every driver does it and these cameras simply make money off the back of it.

I used to live not far away from High Gate Common in the West Midlands.

There was a triangle of woodland/heathland, with roads all round it, not sure of exact size probably 3-4 miles all round.

The bikers used to meet up and taz around at weekends show off their wheels and socialise.

The police used to join them cruising round the circuit on their hi viz bikes, probably undercover too. They would sit and chat with them in the car parks over a brew.

No cameras in site not a lot of speeding either. Education and mutual respect.

The cameras do slow people down, they do save lives, yes I know what road spill looks like and the issue and sorrow it causes.

On balance probably hammer and nut and I am sure they do generate revenue from erroneous speed.

I am sure the police patrol the area at peak times too so probably only cash neutral.

On balance cash generator probably has the balance IMO.

Can't be bothered to debate with someone with your blinkered attitude, try doing a speed awareness course you may learn something, though I seriously doubt it.

Oh and by the way for your information I have had a clean driving licence for over forty years.
