Thought I'd update you all as this has now been sorted, some 15 months later! It was all set to go to court this week, then first my solicitor informed me that the defendant had asked for it to be put back as he was unable to attend - fine. Then a few days ago I get a call to say the other side had caved, and I have now received a cheque.
