It was actually a nice afternoon today! Bizarrely if you 'walk' down that road on google maps it suddenly becomes sunny!

What's a nice young man like you doing in Rusholme?

The wife has family in Rusholme. Think of Onslow and Daisy, but not so posh. When we visit them, we have to telephone them from outside, so they know it's not robbers before they open the door.

What do you need to claim for

Commuting between Uni and Fallowfield, like most students! :) Doesn't surprise me, a mate had thieves break into his EMPTY rented student house there to steal the BOILER!

Get the details from askmid ring their insurers, who will take your details and then try to contact their client for their side of the story.

Ok, is this better than going through my home legal cover? I presume the fewer middlemen the better...? Also is it worth calling the police to make sure they have everything recorded?

Glad you're ok. I can't offer any good advice on the matter at hand, but I can say - stop cycling on Wilmslow Road, you must have a death wish.

I cycle into town every day from Gatley - straight up Palatine Road, left onto Yew Tree Road at Withington and then straight up Upper Lloyd Street into town through Fallowfield and Rusholme and past the university. There are no cycle paths but the road is sooo much safer than Wilmslow Road, which is full of taxis, buses, ipod wearing students and crap drivers. It might not be as direct a route but I feel much more comfortable.

    Hope you get everything sorted.

If you go through his insurance only your not making any claims or demands on your own policy so
should not need to declare anything when renewal time comes.

It's worth a try, a lot of Insurers will be helpful, if it's one of the Direct Line companies they insist on everything in writing which can be a pain.

Play it by ear, if you think they are being a pain go the legal route, it's worth mentioning the cuts as they may pay a small amount for these

My question is whether I can claim damages from the driver's insurance, bearing in mind we did not actually collide?

He caused the accident, of course you can claim.
And what else can I do if the police don't find the driver? There was some uncertainty over the reg number between myself and the witnesses, but having got home and checked it I am sure of it, so can't they go round to his home and interview him?

He has committed a serious offence of failing to give particulars and also probably he will not report the accident to the police. 5-10 points on his licence. Make sure the police take it seriously - inform them that you were injured and that your vehicle was damaged and ask him if he as reported the accident within 24 hours as required by law.

Thanks. Never tried that route but I might do after today! I have found several other routes either through the parks to the West or through OP and past Xaverian to the East. Virtually traffic free but take longer. :( not good for students in the mornings! I do (or did until today) quite enjoy cycling up Wilmslow Road normally - idiot drivers give me something to rant about, blast my airzound (which was broken off today when I came off) at and keep me on my toes, until today when one gave me a little more...
