Edinburghlass wrote:Exactly the point I made to the MSE team earlier today. Having made the mistake once before on posting on the signature thread I was asked rudely if I was a mortgage broker and if not why was I posting on the thread.

If you thought it was rude you should have said! certainly wasnt intended to be.
Glad to see your memory is a good as mine. I found your input on the thread at the time was bizarre, in the same way as thanking Martin for closing a thread today?0 -
I expect to see Key Facts and Initial Disclosure documents in all brokers' sigs if they are given the power to edit/remove posts...

OK OK I said industry professional not broker. which could mean anything, but you are all right it was a terrible idea. I just hate the idea of people losing money due to misinformation - or just pure malice.
Perhaps a better idea is a warning shot being fired by the professional who has spotted it - like david says, something along the lines of a post saying
"this information may be incorrect, please do not act upon it until you have sought a professionals opinion outwith this forum"I am a Mortgage Adviser
You should note that this site doesn't check my status as a mortgage adviser, so you need to take my word for it. This signature is here as I follow MSE's Mortgage Adviser Code of Conduct. I dont think that would be a good idea MM as Myusernamestaken has said.I do think a common signature thread is important or it causes extra division and argument. A standard signature makes a point and also means less argument over what is acceptible process.
With that in mind then a single signature should exist. I would add that a compliance check did warn me to add " Anything posted on this forum is for discussion purposes only. It should not be considered financial advice. " That was for my protection (just as you have yours) rest of it in my sig is not a mandatory from a compliance view. The mortgage advisers may not have that requirement as investment class advisers work under tighter rules (at this time).
I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -

Childish I know but I really am almost phobic about the stuff. very bad experience when I was 11. Lets talk about drinking mulled wine instead  Anyway I won;t go on as it detracts from the serious nature of the thread!I am a Mortgage Adviser

I've just got back from Berlin and I can't believe the quantity of this stuff that the Germans drink.
It really is disgusting. Tasted like warm Pe*. Not that I've ever tasted that.LOL. But how you would imagine it to taste. Alledgedly.0 -

Of course you have tasted your own pee. you are a boy. when your mum changed your nappy when you were a baby its extremely likely you did a wiggle at some point and it shot up into your mouth. My baby son does it all the time. Pee doesnt taste so bad when you get used to it.I am a Mortgage Adviser

MSE_Martin wrote:Dear Mortgage Brokers,
I am extremely saddened by the outbreak of civil war that seems to have happened on here. I have already written much of this content earlier in the appropriate thread, yet as it hasn't been read let me write it here. What we can do to resolve the unhappinessThis was and still is addressed to dunstonh, as one of the longest standing brokers on this board and if he is willing to do this the invite is to him. If not I will ask someone else to undertake it.Dear DunstonhAs you know, I set good store in your view. So perhaps you would like to help us all out. Feel free to say no if you can't commit the timeIt seems to me we urgently need two recommendations and I would like the brokers on the board to be happy and feel comfortable with them.1. On the issue of signatures for brokers2. On what guidance for brokers we can lay on the board for how to behave in a way that won't be seen as touting for business (im not suggesting people are - im suggesting how we protect people from being perceived as such when it isn't appropriate)Yet I would ask this is done with a view to the fact that people are entitled to an 'anti-broker' attitude and that free expression on here of that view point is important. If you would like to suggest some balanced recommendations I would be happy to listen. Perhaps we can start one thread on this (wider than the signature issue) and you can bring it together to do it. I will listen favourably.Yet I think this thread is a useful one to read. This is written after advice and lays out my position and the site's position on advice based info quite clearly. It quite deliberately implies a. Advisers cannot be held above others in terms of view and even if they could, that would involve checks on who the advisers are, something we can't do. b. That we can't referree over 'good or bad' advice, that simply isn't the site's role within a chat forum - and will always be the role of the invididual poster and we aim to keep the resource taken by abuse enquiries here to a minimum.I hope this is a reasonable compromise. My aim is to have this forum back to helping people with their issues to get the best mortgages, and avoid any nasty's lenders throw at them.Once we get some form of understanding (and i would invite non-brokers to engage in this too) then hopefully we can turn back to a smoother process. If you are not willing to take it on - i totally understand - and its not a problem - you just seem to be the right person for the job.Martin
An addendumThis was written earlier. Frankly some of the rather nasty things that have been said and PM'd (not by Dunstonh I hasten to add) almost made me not repost this and retract it. However I think a bigger service is due to the users and people who come to this site. So I have left it.I ask that we try and work consensually towards making this forum work both for the users and for the brokers who put in the time to help. I have always asked for that and in the past it has been done - it saddens me that again we come to this impass.I hope we'll find a way through it
Well said, i think this is what was needed around midday.0
