  • Its a bit like the one that goes something along the lines of 'smiling at the woman that hates you because you know that will annoy her more' haha

im not a naturally positive person & my family used to call me 'smiler' as a kid because I sulk a lot so if I can be positive & achieve so much anyone can :-)

Great news on the office, Tinktay. Definitely use it as a show-room. A builder I worked for had photos of his projects on the office walls instead of the usual boring "corporate art".

Clients always stopped to have a good look at them. Don't forget Portfolios of your work instead of magazines on the coffee table.;)

Agree about the tagline Gallygirl - that's fab. I also agree with using those "local monthly magazine/directories". The advertising rates are very reasonable and they usually have a good success rate. People do like to use local tradespeople where possible.

Tinktay - I would hardly call you negative, you've worked so hard and always come over as determined and positive.

I think you are going to be a huge success. You've got "True Grit".

Making good progress with the equipment search etc. and the decluttering.

Just need to find the time to get selling......
  • Well the office is a go!I went to view, the guy who owns the building runs his business downstairs and the upstairs is 4-5 offices. So I went in thinking its a private entrance but it isnt, its a little entry with a door to the lower workshop, door to mens toilet and the stairs. stairs are painted up nice ish, go up to the office, its quite small, enough for an office but not really enough for a work space as well but I thought for £50 a week all in its great. I said so all the others are in use? The man said well next door is vacating which is a bit bigger but its an extra £1o a week...he opens door and bam...Im home! Itts not miles bigger but big enough that i could have a desk at one end near the window loads of room for lounge area that could convert to work area.

I already have the plan of what I will do. The guy said I can keep whatever hours I like, redecorate how I like and if I want to leave just give 1 months notice! All bills are in except for if I want phone line or whatever but for now I can live without as I have my mobile on all leaflets anyway.

There is even a bit of a stone shelf thing that I can put books on...
Ive just been on amazon & got loads of interior design, decorating, upcycling etc books for 1p each :-) Got used thinking save money & they look used which always looks good when in the context of a craft/workshop

I am now trying to rough up a plan of classes, my first will be upcycling. Bring a piece of old furniture, pay £10 and get an hour in my workshop using my tools, my supplies, my advice & knowledge...go away with an upcycled item. (brews included)

  • Sorry nothing good to report this week - so am keeping quiet. :(

More family illness, me doing battle with SS and the usual culprits, me feeling like death warmed over - bad back/neck/shoulder, lots of bills to pay and not a penny earned.

Think February has been a bit of write off.

Never mind, I've got a clear diary till Thursday so am having a "mini-sabbatical" - just a little bit of "me" time to recharge my batteries.

I'm using the time to do some serious decluttering and a good sort out.

    Then ......hopefully, onwards and upwards.

Hope you are all doing better than me.
  • having a few days of me time sounds like a good plan :-) Hope you feel better soon.

We have been so busy with phone calls & quotes it great, got the keys to our office/workspace today so cant wait to get onto that but it will be at least 2 weeks before we can as we are just so busy!

Nothing to report here either I'm afraid, but like you say Tink sometimes finding exactly the right project takes time and cant be rushed. I'm taking a positive out of it in that however long it takes I shall keep up with the savings in the meantime and then I'll have a nice healthy budget for all of the renovations when it does come along :)

I've done two renovations previously and it's something that I love doing, it's not just about the money although it is very well paid if you get it right. For me it feels like a hobby and i would love to eventually make a full time career out of renovating and being a landlord.
For now though the search continues!

    Hope everyones well :)

Well i, like many will have a tax bill in a few weeks! Got letter through from hmrc today.

Other than that, £200 on advert in local paper with £60 worth of flyers and business cards, surely more work on the way and i can keep getting my name about and work like mad, keeping the pride in the job while hopefully getting decent income to go with it! Posted on another thread in my lunch break, income is at £52k gross so far for year, will be £53,500 after next pay on Friday....however aim for this next financal year is to up it to £65k gross. Which i work out to be £44k net take home for the year.

Looking forward to a great financial year in 2012-13. While many people posted on here at the turn of the year saying it was the start of something for them, i kept quiet and did what i had to do...now the new financial year is just a 4 month in booster to help me on my way. Feel really good with work progressing on, just hoping there is no slumps/quiet periods until at least christmas! Ambitious or what!
Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.
