  • I just finished reading the whole thread this morning- what an inspiration!

Think I might just give it a go so I hope you'll have me!

Im 23, graduated from Uni last May, and had a baby boy last July! My degree is in Business Management so hopefully I have some foundations for starting this challenge there!

I currently work part time in retail and have recently started running my own eBay business selling clothes and accessories etc. Profit for March was £275 so Im still small scale but every penny is getting reinvested so hoping this will increase quite quickly. Im always looking for new business ideas though- would love to have a few businesses on the go!

My long term aim is to get into property. Would love a few buy to lets- but still renting myself at the moment so need to get on that ladder first! Short Term aim is to get out of this debt! We have about 12K between us so quite a lot. Im not going to draw a wage from the business for another 6 months I think. Then if im profiting at 1k+ I will withdraw £500 a month purely to pay off debts. Hoping I can get up to the 1k a month sooner though to be honest.

I will definately need more income streams though so will start spending a bit of time researching (and daydreaming!)

  • What a fabulously inspiring challenge, im only up to page 21 and will continue reading the whole thread over the next few days :)

This challenge as already had an affect on me...:)

4am this morning half way through my night shift in a really crappy temp job i was seriously considering handing in my notice, this thread sprung to mind and i decided to suck it up for another few weeks and just think of the wages helping to clear my overdraft....Ive have plans to move into self employment very soon, but really want the overdraft cleared before hand :(

Tinktay, your efforts to get your business up and running, and your drive is amazing ~ well done Girl!!

Like i say im only up to page 21, but did have a thought regarding your business, going with the Girl power business theme, have you considered expanding into different trades in the future? taking on female plumbers, joiners ect.

I will be back and continue to catch up with the thread but for now i have to get ready for another pants night shift!! :o

Hi everyone, I love that more people are reading and feeling inspired!

Ive had a rough couple of days, wont go in to much detail but ive had a change in personel, damaged my wrist and had a couple of personal upsets but im coming out the other end fighting :-)

When writing down it doesnt look like ive achieved much BUT when I look at outstanding 'debts' and finincial position I have come on in leaps and bounds.

I am far from millionaire but am most definately heading away from the red.

I have work booked in for the foreseeable future, am currently recruiting for an admin assistant (this is something I mentioned a while back but its been a long process)
I am now setting wheels in motion to recruit at least 1 more person also.
I am holding a stand at the northern home show which I need to get myself in gear for as I need to make sure I sell myself as much as possible as I want to make at least 4 times my money back that ive paid for the stand.(hopefully at least my money back before the show closes)
ive still be keeping my eye on property as im building up a deposit from the funds off my current property (we'll see how much is left once Mr Tax takes his cut)

Cant wait to hear how everyone else is getting on. Lesson learned im so pleased to hear that progress, as small as you think it may be, is being made. 1 step forward is better than standing still or going backwards

Have just been doing my on-line banking so thought I'd check in.

Hi Tink - sorry to hear you've had a rough couple of days - these things happen sometimes. Life is full of little setbacks. Just remember The Elephant - One Bite at a Time :rotfl:

Well done on the bookings and good luck with the home show. You are doing well to reduce your debts - it's a good feeling.

This week I took delivery of my new car. It's a wheel chair accessible vehicle, complete with ramp and electronic winch. It takes a bit of practice but I've got it sussed now so am managing to take OH out and about a bit.

The lowered floor and ramp will also make it useful for when I do antique fairs. I've been looking at those little mini loader thingies (forget what they are called:o). I will be able to load it with boxes and then push it up the ramp. Easy peasy.

Have a few bits and bobs ready for the dealers next week. Won't make me rich but it all adds up.

Hope you are all doing well and making lots of money.
  • Hey Lesson learned, seems we have a similar interest ~Antiques :)

Although im not lucky enough to deal in them!! Im more in the collectables market, currently swotting up on Studio pottery & glass from the 60s / 70s Inspired by a carboot purchase of a Bernard Rooke Lamp base i picked for £4 :):)

Thanks for that, noticed them in our local Costco. I have a bad back so thought they might save me a bit of wear and tear:rotfl:.

Made £40 at the dealer the other day - just on a few Cd's, a couple of cameras and a few bits and bobs, nothing of any special note. Not bad for half an hours work.

Moneyspider - I think you are on the right track with your "affordable collectables". That's my main area too.

I love 60's & 70's glassware - I collect this too. Some of the Scandinavian stuff is starting to fetch very good prices, although I tend to keep my favourite pieces. Scandinavian stainless steel is a good bet too - look out for a mark saying Jansen or Jensen (cant quite remember) - usually on goblets.

Look out for German pottery - it is still cheap and set to rise too. Picked up a lovely vase the other day for £1, marked West Germany. Basically anything designated West or better still East Germany is worth looking at - it pre-dates the collapse of the Berlin Wall.

Definitely agree with looking at the car boots, charity shops etc.

Victorian/Edwardian/Art Deco/Art Nouveau is a bit pricy for me so unless I manage to pick something up at a really good price I concentrate on mid 20th century onwards.

I think there are some really good classic designs and I do have a soft spot for a bit of "James Bond" inspired interior design glamour.

I love some of the 60's furniture. I keep looking at copies of the Arne Jacobson chair. I may have to indulge myself one day. It would have to be a copy, the originals are ££££'s I recently bought a lovely black leather "Corbousier" inspired lounger. Visitors to my house fight to sit on it. It's not for sale.

I think if I ever had a mega find from a charity shop I would donate a fair share of my profit back to the shop though. I really hate it when I see people who have paid pence at a charity shop, sell on for hundreds and then pocket all the profits. I know it's not illegal but I do think it's sharp practice. Just my opinion.:o

Here's a little tip for all you declutterers.

Scrap metal prices are at an all time high just now, especially copper. Whilst I've been doing my decluttering I have kept all metal objects to one side, sorting them into boxes copper, brass, stainless steel, aluminium and "don't Knows".

Now it's not going to make my fortune but at one time I would have just taken these to the tip. Not any more - the money is better in my bank than theirs:rotfl:

Happy Hunting Moneyspider - I warn you it's addictive.

PS Just edited to say - hope you didn't find any of the above a bit patronising - it wasn't meant as a "lecture". I just thought that if you were new to collecting you might find it helpful. I find collecting and hunting out treasures fun but it's worth swotting up a bit.
