Lea - Sorry to hear that another "bargain" has slipped through your fingers again. Maybe third time lucky. You'll get there.

Tinktay - Hope you get the marbling work - that's definitely the kind of high end stuff that would be perfect for you. What news on the mortgage front. 40% deposit :eek:

Well I have been incredibly busy - unfortunately not one penny earned:(:

Have been spending endless hours trying to find information regarding equipment for OH, and vehicle adaptations.

Finally making some progress - have demonstrations for equipment booked for next week and a test drive booked for tomorrow. Hopefully can then get things ordered and move onto the next thing.

In the meantime managing to do a bit of decluttering, prior to the decorating. Must get that spare room done up for a lodger asap - need to get some money coming in from somewhere. :o

    Keep moneymaking everyone.
  • I know its no consolation but at least you are busy doing positive things that will make life easier for you and OH.

Lea bad news about the house but as LL says 3rd time lucky?

Im a firm believer in everything happening for a reason.Strange since I also think you make youre own luck sometimes.Weell i guess its less make your owwn luck and more what you do with your experiences wether you choose to take from it the positives or to dwell.

Well leafleting has already done well. Got another call today for another quote so thats 2 quotes so far and less than half a box delivered.5000 in the box.
We are busy busy this week and next so we are looking good again.Should know by Tues whether the bank want to help me set up ann office/workshop but if not I do now have a community centre that charge 15 an hour so could use that for classes to start with and build up trade that way.
I seem to be getting more specialized work recently, im designing a character for a shop, doing a mural, have actually done some interior design work (which I dont advertise as i am not confident in my choosing for others but the woman loved my choices so great news) and as I said previously possibly some marble work on the horizon

Well ive just spent £60 on more business cards but thats for 5000 when most people charge that for 500. Also spent £60 on new brushes etc but they are for doing feathered mahogany work which you can charge up to £400 for a door so big bucks and I seem to have a nack for it and I love it :-)

Can you pm me with what site you are using for leaflets and maybe send me a photo of yours? I'm away to do just that and was looking at trying to get out 100 a night for a month so about 3000 at least to get me going and hopefully get some extra work on the go. You do indeed make your own luck and I am making mine. Business mobile, van, leaflets and business cards all being sorted out this week. So will be raring to go as soon as the calls or emails come in.

Anything else I can do? Besides sort out as much paperwork I can before hand? Soon I hopefully will struggle to find time to post on here, unlike right now where I seem to have a bit much time on my hands and i really need to live by the quote time is money for a year or 2.
Work in progress...Update coming July 2012.

Very true, and leaflets / adverts can work. I found an electrician a while ago from an advert in the local shop, simply because I don't know any trades and figured a local guy was best. He was short on his usual commercial work so was advertising and picking up household work to plug the gap. :)
I've got a plan so cunning you could put a tail on it and call it a weasel.
  • Rictus, I get my biz cards from vistaprint, they are always doing offers and as long as you dont go for all the add ons you get a good deal.Like I say Ive just order 5000 for £60 including delivery which is a bargain.
We also have our phone number on our hoodies & my girsl even wear them when they arent working as they know the more they advertise the more they work, the more money they earn.
The leaflets I got from a friend of mine, i did the design & he printed for me.
If you msg me your email i'll send one across to you so you can see it

Not sure where i can leave them except local shops, pubs, halls and house drops. Not your average flyer you just hand to anyone on the street. I will message my email, thanks for that. Can anyone tell me any benifits of putting my phone down as being a business expense as opposed to personal and getting a business contract compared to your usual monthly deals? Dont know if there will be any benifits to me or not?

  • I have a normal personal mobile contract but as its a business expense they knock it off your earnings.Just means its coming out the business rtaher than your pocket

How about advertiisng in a local mag, the little A5 directories that come through about once a month? I got the heating engineer I use for my btl's from there. From that, in addition to annual gas safety certs and smal repairs, they've had 3 boilers out of me. Plus I use them as my own trade directory now, and through them have found workmen where I've spent 9k on kitchens, 2k on roofing & electrical work, £600 on odd jobs etc. from people they've recommended. Not bad for a £50 ad!

  • Not bad at all! Im just weighing up which publications are worth it.You get tapped up so much for so many that you start to just say no to everything. You get some that are so insistent that it puts you off.
ive not paid for any advertising yet unless you count my van signage oh and leaflets/business cards which, ive got a fair few free. I am now running at 2 members of staff, about to take on 1 more & another 1 in april so not bad at all.Imagine what would happen if I did spend that £50!

Well I think ive found an office, very good all inclusive deal with easy in easy out, its self contained as its above a UPVC fitters workshop. Its just a normal terraced type buildding that has been converted into a workshop & 2 offices and its right in the town centre where I live
Because the rent is a lot lower than i budgeted im going to spend some money on a nice feature wall & a few items I can upcycle to use as office furniture so it can be an advert in itself for customers to pop in and see us.Im sure if our office looks good it will help people see what we are about

Love your tagline gallygirl about the positive attitude :-)
