Thanks guys. As for renting a room out, it is something to consider that is for sure but I'm not sure it's somehing that I want to do.
.
I understand. There's an expression that is something like "I do what others don't want to so I can do/have what others can't".
For me, I had lodgers so that I could afford to travel abroad. Having lodgers also meant my mortgage could be paid when I decided to have a career change and go back to university to become a doctor.
The things I do now enable us to save more, retire early and for me to not go to work.
Once you are clear on what your actual goals are, it will be easier to make sacrifices. Tony Robbins has a great Youtube talk about this and he also discusses it in one of his CDs you can borrow from the library.Your biggest asset is TIME! I'm focused on multi-generational financial freedom.0 -
Bit by bit, Muhren - the potential new job sounds good, a lesser commute will lessen the stress from that. Since stress has been a problem, I'd say not to try to change too much at once - just one or two things.2023: the year I get to buy a car0

Listerbelle - I like that quote, maybe I will have to reaccess my situation.
Karmacat- is that the voice of experince speaking? It sounds very sound advice, as too much change can be stressful.LBM: Dec 2012 - Debt £38,180/ Now £0.

damn......just typed a nice chatty post and lost it.
So I will just keep it short and say Hi and welcome to our Newbies.
Talk to you all another time. I need my beauty sleep........:D0 -
This has no doubt already been covered but can you let me off as I am a newbie! When I woke up this morning I had the thought about pensions, and whether we can include this in net worth figures?
I would have thought we can, but just wondered what you old timers of this thread are doing!LBM: Dec 2012 - Debt £38,180/ Now £0.

Hey I might be 64 but less of the "old timer" if you please. In my head im still 16. :rotfl:
Yes I would Class pensions As part your net worth. Most of my current passive income comes from either pensions or investments. i spend what i need and then reinvest what's left to keep the pot growing.
We had a new Aldi open here - we already have several dotted around but this one has taken on board the criticism of inadequate carparking and has a nice spacious carpark. the shop itself is much bigger than usual too with nice wide aisles and more tills . Very Impressive.
Anyway the car park was full of really premium prestige cars when I went the other day, which just goes to prove the argument that building and holding onto wealth is as much about lowering costs as it is earning more.
The wealthy get wealthy and more importantly, stay wealthy, by being canny with what tney have.
To this end I am about to do my month end accounts.
I have had some unexpected costs this month and of course I go on holiday a week on Saturday so I need to sort out my banking, order my currency and I still have a few purchases to make.
I have been busy cooking up a storm, filling up the freezer with home made "ready meals" for DS2 whilst I'm away and so that I have some food in for when I get back.
I return on 10th December so will then be busy getting ready for Christmas so the more I can do now the better. I have already bought some gifts and am hoping to get the Christmas cards done next week.
Busy, busy, busy. No time for money making........:o0 -
The old timers bit was referring to peoples time on this thread rather than their time on this earth!
That will increase my net worth then, if only by a small amount. I am currently directing 6% of my wages into my pension with my employer contributing 9%.
As I am living to home I don't do much supermarket shopping although when I do go to a supermarket for something it is usually Sains as I have a nectar card.
What is a fairly long time to be away on holiday, whereabout are you off to?LBM: Dec 2012 - Debt £38,180/ Now £0.

I know what you meant by Old Timer, I was just teasing........:rotfl:
I'm off to the Caribbean for 33 days.......very extravagant and naughty but who cares.....
Actually I got a great deal and, because it's my first proper holiday in over 10 years, it really only equates to 3 days and a bit per year:rotfl:
Well that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.;)
More bad news on the spending front. My dishwasher has died.
October has turned out to be a very expensive month....0 -
Hello all old timers
and new posters.
I keep reading but never get round to posting...
Partly because I am being a bit Ms Paranoid, with the previous business issues and on the off chance someone maybe reading who knows us.
Anyway I thought I would post and just be a bit cryptic.
That is mostly sorted now, new manager in running the business. Which means Mr Minxy has been having some well deserved time off!
Oh Listerbelle- put me on the list for a link to your blog when its up and running, I love having a nose around.
I am amazed people just get content onto the page!
cazmanian_minx- well done with your 83p! If I just click on it randomly does that make you money?
Actually going down all your posts, am I the only one without a blog...
Damn Karma 12G's on a dress, for one day
Sorry to hear about your cat LL, hope its getting better. Bet you are looking forward to the cruise! Interested to hear about it as Mr Minx says he want to go on one.
Kay- well done with your progress (photography and budget).
Muhren- well done with your debt repayment and sorting the gambling problem.
Still no concrete ideas on who set up the issues, have really narrowed it down to 2 sources, a competitor has recently been sniffing around again, since Mr Minxy has not been around, this competitor has always been his no 1 suspect.
Luckily the hard work (mostly his physically and time wise) put into the business for the last few years and sacrifices and hard work over a decade, and also not upping our expenditure in-line with increasing income means we have been able to enjoy time off whilst looking for the next venture without feeling we have to jump into something which isn't "fully loaded", fully loaded has become our new saying.
We have been busy looking into what we are going to do next, so not just chillaxing- we are still in business mode 5-6 days a week, the only difference in some of those days we get to have a cheeky lie in :j
I would have hopped we have the next chapter up and running by spring next year (sounds ages away), but the reality with getting the right place, and then everything to set up etc this will probably be the time scale.
We have cast the net, so just waiting for some bites, and also continuing to look.0 -
It does, but it also potentially gets me banned from Adsense for fraudulent clicks, so please only click if it's something you're genuinely interested in0
