  • Kayalana, I think you've hit the nail on the head with your idea that the school holidays have made a big difference to people's behaviour patterns:T. Even a lot of the threads and diaries that I subscribe to on MSE have gone eerily quiet. From pages of posts to catch up on each time I visit to one solitary post in total per day on some of them:eek:

It's interesting what you said about charity shops. My OH has a similar approach to car boot sales. He'll happily mooch round one and buy things but refuses point blank to help me on my stalls selling things or, better still, have a stall of his own sometime to get rid of his clutter-mountain:(. He always says ''what if anyone I know sees me selling stuff?''. I just say that they have to be there themselves to see him and if they're not too proud to go there to buy why should he be too proud to go there to sell. It just falls on deaf ears though:(

kayalana, I know exactly the feeling you mean though I am starting to push myself when I get this kind of feeling with things. I do go in charity shops as often get furniture etc but with things like not wanting to leaflet when I first started out as I didn't want to annoy home owners or anyone to shout at me but when people leaflet my house I don't do that so why would others....

Today I had a quick look at my mortgage on my rental property and discovered I could apply online to get a new deal (ive been out of my fixed rate for about 4 years as when I came out my payments halved and refixing would have caused them to go back to double) ANYWAY after a quick input of my details my personalised quote to fix for 2 years will knock £40 a month off my repayment! The 2 years will then take me up to a point that I have more choices regards remortgaging completely so hopefully that should go smoothly and kick in as of septembr.
Our week in Greece was amazing but tiring with 2 kids haha. My 5 yr old was swimming from 8.30am -9pm every day with just a quick 30 min lunch and about 2 hrs at teatime...40 degree heat and she was still hyperactive. Everyone I know says she has much more energy than 'normal' kids and cant believe she has 6-7 hrs sleep a night and is still so energetic. She also flips from full blown melt down screaming fits to happy in a matter of minutes which worries me yet im very strict and have never indulged either child when they have been naughty so think I may have to relent and seek help
money wise I should be almost debt free by 31/12/15!!!!
Then to start rebuilding my empire.....
trainee millionaire (aka not there yet!)

Good morning fellow millionaires in waiting.

Tink - great news about being almost debt free::T. Good idea to refinance - apparently mortgage rates are due to start rising so fixing now is a smart move so again well done :T my boys are both looking at this as their deals are coming to an end.

I'm thinking along similar lines......I can afford to buy the next house in cash but am thinking about taking out a small mortgage so I can keep back some capital to reinvest.

Still viewing properties, I'm being rather picky.......

Kay - I often think you can write July and August off from a business and/or selling point of view. People with families seem to put things on hold during the holidays, so maybe not the time to make big decisions. Fingers crossed for the birthday photo gig.

Building work now all complete on DS2 house, Nearly finished decorating the kitchen, start the lounge tomorrow. Shopping for DS1s birthday today.

Looks like we are nearly ready to exchange on dads house so I'm going to be busy with the final clearing out etc. I am relieved that I can finally put this one to bed.

The architect has submitted the plans for the granny annexe to my sisters house so fingers crossed we can start the build soon and get dad moved in.

And then, just like you Tink, I can get back to making that £1m.

Ive "lost" the best part of 18 months due to family issues but it's now finally back to the business in hand.

    Onwards and upwards.......;)

Wow. That's fab news. Good for you. Good luck, hope it's very successful. Keep us informed of progress.

Ive had a very naughty shopping morning. Paint, decorating materials, etc from Homebase. They had a sale on :o. So of course I snaffled up some bargains.......

Then to tkmaxx to buy a pasta maker for DS1s birthday, checked on "my" dress, they had reduced it again ..........

It obviously had my name on it............:rotfl:

Just need to get an invite to somewhere really posh. ;)

Actually I do have an occasion to wear it....the evening do for my sons wedding, although that's nearly a year away.

The two final hurdles before we actually stick a formal offer in (our verbal one is apparently acceptable, but we're in Scotland, so once a formal offer's concluded, you've bought it) are making sure we can get the money (it's not mortgageable in its current state) and ensuring there's nothing nasty lurking in the legals (crofting law is a minefield and needs a specialist solicitor). If we can jump both those, we're full steam ahead!

    Hello!

Things are starting to move on here :) I'm back from holiday, but I've been faffing about with online work this past week, so not quite in ex-holiday mode :) And sleep? What's that? Mind you, I mostly only have myself to blame for that - Celebrity Masterchef on iplayer at silly o'clock, I'm a baaaad person ...

Anyway, I have my little list to do today, plus several hours of actual paid work - the bills still have to be paid, interrupting my plans for millionairedom, how very dare they :rotfl:

Seriously, I'm very familiar with the drop-off in online activity in August, from threads on here to everywhere else too, and I'm planning to use it to get the blogs into top notch condition (self hosted blogs don't have automatic "follow" buttons, would you believe, I have to take care of that) and content up there too.

Eek exciting! Can't wait to buy my first B2L.

I realise I've been posting a lot but this is very much relevant and perhaps will help others or inspire them a little.

1, I have started a new back account (well using an old empty one) and I put in the interest of my savings and a small portion of the money I got paid from the photoshoot (The birthday party one paid yay!). I'm going to start earning money from the bottom! I've signed up for swag bucks, and the idea is I just keep adding money I won't miss (or extra money I've earned whilst doing this challenge) Almost like a side millionaire challenge...I'm on £5.83 ATM, I'm hoping I will get £5-£10 from Swagbucks next month (I do think it's a waste of time but the idea is I do little things now for my side pot, and once say I am on £100 I can then take that £100 and put it into the stock market or something...I'll figure it out as I go but it's all play money and not to spent on day to day or classed as savings in any shape or form)

2, as above I'm writing a list of income ideas, I'll keep it vague but their is no reason they can't be adapted to others.

    Information website
    App Idea
Information website / Personal website + Blog (Photography based)
    Photography Business
Develop my current business into a new market
    Stock Market
    Property
    Matched betting
Caravan Lettings (I've been told this isn't worth it but plan to look into it anyway as we could consider doing this next year if it was.)
Newspaper /Leaflet Round (Considering doing something like this to build my side pot up)
Selling Photos on istock (nothing to sell I don't think but worth adding to the list)
    Baby sitting
    Selling Housebits
    Youtube Videos

3, To put some of these plans in action I am going to start learning how to build very simple websites, simply link click able ones from the top or side and go from their, it means I will develop my own personal photography website/blog/information site in time and I can also do my original information site idea if I want but given photography is my passion perhaps I should focus here...but I think it would be easier to get people to go to that idea then photography information.

Stock market I'll start looking into when I've built my play money up a bit, but these are just ideas doesn't mean I have to do all of them just wanted to sit down and review.

4, got to think of small things I can do to turn the side pot into more...

..oh and I've come into an unexpected £160 which means my savings are on £910 ...only £90 off the £1000 target with 2 days to go although I don't see how I can pull this £90 from anywhere...I do have £35.00 in a separate pot from my photo shoot payment but I'm keeping all my photography money separate as it will be used to pay for better equipment.

I have to many rules on my self...?! I'm crazy aren't I lol.

Hi Kay - Some good ideas there.

I have side pots too and the dribs and drabs go in there. I swear by them.

I use them so I don't dip into my proper savings. That way if I take a punt on something and it doesn't work out then I don't worry too much.

I also have a "mad money" fund so if I want to splash out on something frivolous then I don't feel guilty or that I am derailing my plans.

Well I made my £1k target this month. Ive significantly reduced the housekeeping spend, although there still seems to be Loads of supplies in. Still can't switch the second freezer off yet.....

So hopefully I can keep things fairly tight again next month. I won't manage to save as much though.

I do have loads of stuff to sell but I doubt if I'll have much time to get organised. We should be completing on dads house plus DS2 and I are aiming to crack on with the decorating and garden so I don't think I'll be earning much money.

So......my target for August is £500.
