Thanks Kayalana, just read and replied. How wonderful your family are so supportive, and have that level of belief in you! Brilliant :j

LL, love the sound of what you're saying about cutting out the doomsayers; that should be second nature to me, seeing as I'm a counsellor, but its not. And I take too much notice of them, I've realised recently - they're positive in other ways, but not in the ways I want them to be. So I have to cut out their doomsaying, while keeping what I *do* like about them, I think - maybe the thing for me is to find others who are positive about the things *I* want to be positive about, so that the negatives from existing friends are like water off a duck's back, which they're not at the moment.

Hope the talk with your broker goes well, anyway - sounds like an exciting time to be in property - the London rises sound huge, so if they *do* trickle out to the rest of the country, it could be really profitable for you. I hope it is!

Today for me, another post onto the website, but mostly cleaning the "public" parts of the house, that clients see when they come to me - got nasty damp in the porch, I've noticed some black mould too, thats really not good news. Got to look after current income (and current property too, come to that!).

Speaking of blogs, can anyone recommend a website to start a blog on? I am hoping to start one but not sure what is the best one to use. I also eventually want to make some money out of it but that's not the ultimate goal right now.

Any tips on blogging as well? Thanks

Thanks Buffy - that's a great link - very inspiring.

Speaking of inspirational I am currently reading Arnold Schwarznegger's autobiography "Total Recall". I know he's not everyone's cup of tea but I love big Arnie. I think he is a wonderful example of the power of positive thinking and how vital it is to have a strong work ethic. Whatever else he is or has done (re extra marital affairs etc) he has come from nothing and worked his way up through his own efforts. You can't fault him for that.

He's had several very successful careers. Body builder, businessman, movie star and politician. There's just no stopping the man:rotfl:

Well this morning I had a very successful meeting with one of my mentors. He is another very inspirational man and he and his wife are great friends of mine. They have been wonderful with my OH and unlike a lot of our old fair-weather friends who have vanished into the ether they always make time to visit my OH and also to act as my guardian angels.

I may have mentioned him before. He is a retired (Ha, ha) builder and is now my "Construction Mentor". Although ostensibly now retired he is helping me project manage my fledgling property empire, with lots of sage advice and access to his list of trades and contacts.

Anyway I ran a few ideas by him, particularly the question of whether or not I should invest my capital in our third property sooner rather than later (as discussed in my last post) and he has helped me come to a decision.

So yes I know this is sooner rather than I had originally planned but I have decided to start searching for No 3.

I'm not going to worry too much about keeping enough back for renovation works for No 3. As long as I retain enough in the kitty for contingency on the flipper we will be fine. No 3 can always stand idle for a couple of months if necessary. If the market does rise steeply it will increase in value before we even begin to develop it.;) That would be very nice. It would probably give me a better return on my investment than having it stuck in the bank, not even keeping pace with inflation.

So this week contacting my broker is on the to do list, along with a bit of "life laundering" and generally getting a grip.

I have also booked a course of pilates classes - starts on Friday. I am determined to sort my back out and get fit. I've got a lot to do this year and I need to be on top form,:rotfl:
  • After reading the entire thread today I have decided to post. After many personal setbacks I have decided to join this challenge, I'm thinking less of making a specific amount and more about having a decent income and some security.
My main passion is writing so I have written a short book and self-published it with Kindle Direct. I am on my way to publishing another 2 asap.
I'm thinking of offering my services out as a proof reader, at a very modest rate as I have done this previously and I quite enjoy it. I'm not sure what other income streams to look into, reading up on Matched Betting is giving me a headache if I'm totally honest :)
I can paint and I am quite arty/crafty but I'm not sure where to start!
Sorry if I've waffled on too much. Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!

Like you, I'd stick with Windows 7 as long as I could

Slightly OT, but the general rule of thumb seems to be every second version of Windows is the one to go for:

    Windows 98 - good
Windws ME - not so good
    Windows XP - good
Windows Vista - er, no thanks
    Windows 7 - good
    Windows 8 - looks like a phone

Welcome. That's the general idea as I see it, despite the title of the thread it's not really about specifics, just setting (and hopefully achieving) goals. Pity I can't do that for myself, really.

Well, that's a start, identifying what skills you have that might be marketable, this as well as writing stories etc. Personally I see there's a big market in greetings cards, lots of people still send them and most of the stuff you see in the big card retailers are awful, jumping from chocolate-box schmaltzy to funny but rude with nothing in between.

Also this series was quite interesting at the time, I haven't read through it for a bit though:

GAHHH! I just want a laptop.

My 'second hand' laptop came..it was brand new! I sent the seller a email saying thanks so much for its condition and I am sure it will keep me away from windows 8 a little longer...said I would leave feedback once I had chance to play...

Well I had chance to play!! The touch pad makes mouse jump around ..its useless to me. I need it for photoshop ..I could get a mouse but I wanted to be able to sit in bed to do work..move around house etc and I can't do that with a mouse!

I *really really* wanted to keep it so I started googling on my lappie if it can be fixed..alot people said installing a new driver might help for the mouse so I went to set it up to the internet...and its missing some software that means you can't get wireless on it without downloading something thats on the internet....

*Pulls hair out* Seller has been unresponsive...case opened...move on!

I think I'm going to set myself a challenge for this year...

    Get off benefits.

Shouldn't even me a topic in this fourm but I currently get M/Leave of £500 and tax credits + child benefit about £500 a month ()

I don't think I could afford to go back to work and afford childcare..OH's mother will have them both for one day so thats £200 a month sorted...would manage easily with £200 less...so basicly to get off benefits I would need to me making £500-£600.

Thats not really alot in scheme of things..OK I'm no where near that amount earning business wise...but I guess I better get cracking!!!

    Aims for this week:

    Product 1: 150 listings / 114 so far ish
    Product 2: 100 listings / 17 so far

    Next week aims:

    Product 1: 300 listings
    Product 2: 150 listings

    1..2..3. Go! :D
People don't know what they want until you show them.

Kayalana, what a nightmare! I hate changing from the existing computer, whether its a laptop as now, or when I used to have PCs, there's weeks of trouble :( seems like you're finding the same thing.

Evil Queen - I'm thinking of self publishing a couple of short books sort of on the research spinoffs for the novel I'm writing - have you done any publicity yourself? Like a blog, or via a writers group? I've just found a writers group locally, tho its off public transport, so I hope I'm going to be able to get to it.
