Actually someone told me yesterday that Arriva advertises the same thing - Your whole family can use the same ticket..haha..oh well..time for merseytravel to adapt...I mainly use Arriva anyway but sometimes we have to use the train and sometimes I can't be bothered waiting for Arriva and take the stagecoach bus. But that is only possible with a saveaway ticket..Oh how I hat bureaucracy!!

Of course they can if it's a 'family' or 'group' ticket and they are travelling together. But the ticket cannot be passed onto another 'family' to use when the purchasing family have finished with it. Same rule applies.

Ok, ok..I can see your point. It's in the T&C and when I buy the ticket I agree to the T&C. I still don't think it's fair and I'm sure the people on here who are telling me off either work for a bus company, have a car or are over 60 and have a free bus pass...

This is one of the things that really annoys me about this forum. People who take a different view from the OP, that happens to match the T&C's of the companies people feel so aggrieved by, MUST work for that kind of organisation?

No, I don't and I agree with the other posters that this is a fair T&C. And If your day tickets are only twice a single bus fare I don't see what your problem is! If you are only going to use the bus once that day by a single ticket!

Around her the day tickets are 3-4 times a single bus fare. If I don't want to use 3-4 buses that day I by a return ticket (which is usually about 30p cheaper than 2 singles) instead.

Edited to add: more than one person using a ticket will also lead to higher raises in prices since they won't be getting the income they expected from the number of individual travellers.

It is people like the OP who sometimes want me to see Merseytravels Saveaway tickets withdrawn.

Lets see how you like it when you have to pay full fare set by the bus and train operators.

You know what these smiley-thingy's are for, don't you? (despite the fact that you missed to quote the smiley..)

@Tilt: No, what I said didn't apply to the family ticket. It applies to the weekly ticket and it can be swapped between different family members.

OK - I am not British so I am not really familiar with the law in that regard because it is allowed in my home country.
Once a week I have to purchase a saveaway ticket that I use on the buses and trains. It is valid all day and I can use it as many times as I want on buses and trains is my area. On the same day my husband has to go to an appointment and he also takes the bus. By that time I am usually home and I give him my ticket so we can save some money because the ticket costs 3.40£ which is good but we're struggling a bit with money at the moment. This ticket is just a normal day ticket (no season ticket) - no picture, no personal data, no nothing. I have never seen any signs on the buses or bus stops saying that this would be illegal. But someone else told me today that strictly spoken it is illegal. I couldn't find any information on Google. Maybe the companies don't like it and include in their policy (haven't found anything though) but is it against the LAW?? I have seen a lot of people passing their tickets on to someone else (they obviously don't sell it). Can anyone enlighten me?

The day tickets here are just like normal bus tickets - since I'm usually finished with buses by 4pm (school runs - oh the joy) if I've had a day ticket I'll tuck it into the timetable thing edge so it can be clearly seen for anyone to have it :)

ETA If I'm not catching the bus for whatever reason I've lent weekly/monthly adult and child tickets to people for the day. We're all in this together, right? and we're all broke!

Sorry just re-read your post and mis-understood..

I still don't understand why you want these tickets to be scrapped? Just because there are a few people who don't use them the way YOU want them to use it? Do you personally suffer from what I am doing once in a blue moon? If you want these tickets to be scrapped anyway, then I don't see why you should be worse off with what I am doing now..

And the fact that ARRIVA and Stagecoach ARE allowing their customers to give their weekly and monthly tickets to other family members shows that they are not losing out on much and even if I had to pay a few pennies more for the saveaway ticket it would be nice if they could introduce a similar promotion. That way people might be more inclined to use public transport rather than their car which would be better for the environment and people's pockets...

That is only on their weekly and monthly tickets though. There is a very good reason for this as they dont anticipate many overall journeys by using these tickets as people who buy them will more then likely be commuters and/or school kids so its really going to be only 2 journeys per day and maybe 2 or 3 at weekends and given that the services are already running then they may as well try and fill them. Also im not sure about the areas concerned but they may actually get a subsidy for running these services and how many people they get on board so makes it very cost effective for them to offer this- as they already have the money.

As for daily rover tickets and such like - these are the bread and butter of every transport business so they have to make the concession that you cannot transfer the ticket between people as this would then deny them the price of a one way trip from the person who you have given it too.

You still need to read it again. I said:

The 'few people' who don't use them the way I want them to use them are not using them at all, they are abusing them. Simple as that.
And the fact that ARRIVA and Stagecoach ARE allowing their customers to give their weekly and monthly tickets to other family members shows that they are not losing out on much

    Totally irrelevant.

Arriva and Stagecoach can charge what they want for tickets on their services. Merseytravel do NOT run any services. They subsidise the tickets that you are abusing.
