Fine - basically you are dishonest when it suits you. I don't have a problem with that - I do have a problem with you thinking it's 'right'.

I'm otherwise very honest - problem is that companies make up rules as it suites them. They sell day tickets that cost twice the single bus fare and most of the time the person buying it hasn't even got the opportunity to use it often enough to make it worthwhile and the company knows that. If they want those tickets not to be transferable they have to make the tickets more "personal" so they can't be passed on. If they increased the prices of tickets in the same manner as they increase my wages I would be more than happy to pay for two day tickets. I am sure that they don't increase their employees wages when they increase the ticket prices. For goodness sake, it's just a bum on a seat - and I am not sharing it with anyone but my husband. If I decided to take the ride instead of my husband it would be ok according to their policy. It doesn't make sense. I am not selling it - am I?

And nobody's arresting you, so personally I don't see what your problem is.

    Well, that's ok then.

That's right. A multi-use ticket is only worthwhile if you are planning to use it for multiple journeys.
Otherwise, one buys single tickets, don't they?
    What is your point here?

Does that make it right then?

Whether it makes sense or not, was not the question you asked in your original post.

surely it would be the person you pass the ticket to that would get in trouble? i dont know of any law that prohibits anyone from giving things away, you paid for it so it is yours to do with as you please , however the person you give it to has not paid for it so they are the transferee, also i think BR bylaws only apply on BR premisis, i doubt they have any control over what you do when you leave their premisis

An interesting line of argument - are assets not freely transferable between a husband and wife?

It's the same as not being able to pass on pay and display parking tickets. Why not? I've paid for the parking space for the specified time, what does it matter if I then use it or someone else does!

No, it's not the ticket that is purchased, it is the right to travel and by passing the ticket onto someone else deprives the bus operator of that second person's fare. The ticket in fact is the property of the bus co and therefore can be confiscated or withdrawn.

Because when you by the tcket, you agree not to in the T & C's of parking which no doubt state; 'ticket not transferable'.

We are back to The Public Service Vehicles (Conduct of Drivers, Inspectors, Conductors and Passengers) Regulations 1990.

    From http://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/1990/1020/regulation/7/made :
7.—(5): Any passenger on a vehicle being used for the carriage of passengers at separate fares who has with him a ticket which he is not entitled to retain for any reason including–(b)the fact that the ticket, having been issued for use by another person, was not transferable to him–shall surrender the ticket to a driver, inspector or conductor on being required to do so.

8.—(1) Any passenger on a vehicle who is reasonably suspected by the driver, inspector or conductor of the vehicle of contravening any provision of these Regulations shall give his name and address to the driver, inspector or conductor on demand

8.—(2) Any passenger on a vehicle who contravenes any provision of these Regulations may be removed from the vehicle by the driver, inspector or conductor of the vehicle or, on the request of the driver, inspector or conductor, by a police constable.
Surprisingly, these Regulations may even apply in Liverpool (and over the water on the Wirral).
