Just another think.. Do you have a university closeby? There are usually a lot of student teachers who are willing to do childcare for bits of extra cash. they will have the CRB and experience of working with older children and not treat them like babies and might even offer tuition in some subjects if they are interested in certain topics..

Any school freinds parents that would help out in exchange for some school holiday child care?
Mama read so much about the dangers of drinking alcohol and eating chocolate that she immediately gave up reading.

  • I found my childminder on www.childcare.co.uk She is fully CRB checked and Ofsted registered. You can either pay as a member to contact CMs already on there, or post a free message detailing what you need from a childminder. Once you are in contact with them, you can go through all their registrations and check with the council that they are registered with them but it gave me a much better choice than those just listed with the council. My CM is great, works weekends, bank holidays and nights if required so there are some out there that do unsocial hours.

I am a member there, and there is no one in my area who does weekend cover :(

I am sure it would be a very popular childminder who offered saturday/weekend care. Part of the problem could be that they have their own children and when it is the weekend, it is family time. Also having their own children present would restrict the amount of children they could care for. And if the childminder & family attend church or something over the weekend, you can't take the children you are childminding with you really. Just some of the obstacles possibly.

Unless you get a proper nursery who catches on to this and offers care for those working anti-social hours with staff who can do shifts to provide late evening & weekend cover, I don't think it will change very much about availabilty of childcare :(

I'm another one in the your OH is being a little OTT camp.

When did common sense come second place to qualifications? Surely your children aren't happy about the arrangement, nor I bet are they being supervised for the whole time.

tbh I would half tempted to leave the problem of finding childcare to him - he might change his tune pretty quickly that way

Or do you think he's being akward so that you'll have to give up your job?

If you want help via the Tax credit scheme, it would need to be a registered childminder. A student teacher or college student would not be registered so you would not get any assistance.

We are both looking into childcare, we are a team and work on stuff together.

he does not want me to quit, he is really proud of me and what I have done in the last few months and encourages me in every way he can.

I would of thought at that age there is plenty that you can bring in to entertain them. My two children who are 3 and 9 months come into work with me everyday 9-5 and have done since they were 4 months, needs must my husband and i are self employed and own an I.T company. My 3 year old goes to nursery two mornings a week but otherwise is with me at work.

We have plenty of toys, books etc... and they love "chatting" to customers, I would imagine as they get older they would be easier to entertain DS, Books etc...
