weekend childcare

I have 2 children 7 and 8. I work every Saturday, my husband works 4 out of 6. I am a hairdresser. Up until now I have brought them to work as we have a large room down stairs set up for kids, its a new salon so I have had time to play with them etc between clients. We have started to get very busy now so bringing them every week is not so fair.

Where can I get childcare on the weekend? No clindminders work weekends here I have looked into that.

Family isnt an option really apart from the occasional weekend.

Could you contact your local college which runs childcare courses and see if there are any second year students who'd like a regular Saturday job?

I dont think my husband would agree to someone unqualified looking after them.

    I've been Money Tipped!
I have just put this on another thread - there is a distinct lack of childcare at weekends its a nightmare for parents that work weekends

Do you have any friends you could use or family / husband?

That's why I suggested a second year student: They will already have acquired a level 2 qualification during their first year and be fully CRB checked due to the placements they'll be undertaking as part of their studies.

When my cousin did her childcare course she was not qualified until the end of her second year.

thats correct - but this late in the college year, 2nd year students are only a few weeks away from being fully qualified. You could always ask any interested 2nd year students for their assessment marks etc?

Would they count as proper childcare to get help with tax credits to pay?

I wouldn't have thought so - but I'm not sure. When I last claimed the childcare provision of tax credits, it had to be a registered individual (ie registered childminder or nursery) to get the childcare increase on tax credits. maybe ask on the benefits board?

can you approach nursery staff you already know and offer to pay them by the hour?
 Well aint funny how its the little things in life that mean the most? Not where you live, the car you drive or the price tag on your clothes.
