Re: new car, we had to buy a new one as old one died (stooopid renault won't ever buy another again was only 6 yr old) and we have a 10 yr old volvo now, it's fab and even the windows work on it :rotfl:and the roof doesn't let water in:rotfl:! we paid just over £1k for it but it is a far superior car to our other one! AND it has been really good so far, touch wood! We need to keep this one going now until we reach our debt free date and beyond really as i want to save for a new one. Don't want any more credit or loans that i'm paying off forever after the car has long died (like I am now for my old car)

oh and p.s i think you've done fab to have that many bottles of wine left :rotfl:i remember the case i bought and it is just so temptiing to open them all as they are sat there saying 'drink me, drink me!'!!!

    dfw :D

I picked up an s-reg Audi A4 diesel last month for £700... it's in one piece, not rusty, and had 12 months MOT too... high mileage, but it's a diesel so it will go forever. Okay so it's pretty poverty-spec (no aircon, windy windows in the back) and a bit smelly but it goes okay and 500 miles later I'm still on the same tank of fuel. Boot is massive, and enough room in the back for DD.

Sometimes we want a nice, new, fast car which looks good when what we need is something that is reliable, cheap to buy and cheap to run. I know how easy it is to get carried away buying a new car ('well, for a little bit more we could have...') but you just need to get something that will see you through for now with as little drama as possible, and look forward to what you may be able to afford on your DFD!
  • haha, well thanks for that, it has been brewing a while that post! I need a shake a review and replot, I think we get in the mindset of not spending and when Christmas approaches and the necessary spends happen it is difficult to remain positive.

    SOOOO time for anew approach.

I have been looking at volvo estates as well, alfas and mercs and stuff. Solid beasties. We all like a beast. ON Tuesdays.

Ah but once I get sub 20 in the wines with Christmas approaching - visting the parents and the need to indulge in IV chianti, I will be ordering more wine.

Its more cost effective really, than the breakdown I would have without it, at the end of the day.

The masterplan itself isnt that much different to my usual rantings chantings and lunatic dribbling, but its a bit of a scheme for the next few months. it helps me to share, so glad you were all around to enjoy!

Naturally theres going to be lots of nice things like winter walks (with the obligatory forage) and family time. Maybe even wine, who know.

I would love a new sofa, but not going to be a priority... we will see if those 6 numbers appear...
    Anyway... .

Been on quidco for the pets flea treatments and whatnot today, all ordered via there.

Quidco is my new bff, in fact, I might elope with it. I wonder if it fancies going to Caracas. I am about there already x

Yep I agree. I am not looking at anything flash, and I am not on a hiding for nothing. Sadly Bessie is just that kind of vehicle but she is too ill now (shes a diesel mondeo bless her).

I had an old merc which i picked up for 600 quid about 14 years ago and she was on an old B reg. I ran her for 6 months jsut as an interim car while I was waiting for a complex insurance write off to be sorted which wasnt my fault but it was dragging... I got a lovely shiny new voyager after her, but I missed that old (think it was a C180) Merc. It had nets on the back of the seats. haha.

  • and looking back to the debt with the ex husband that voyager contributed to it.... should have stuck with my "probably later used in the Lebanon with a machine gun strapped to the top" merc..

Might have saved alot of heartache

  • ... le sigh. We took out an additional 15k of debt fot that top of the range car. How shocking is that??

    I am really mulling now...

  • Skint but optimistic,

I have been a secret reader and had to now become a member just to say well done to you. You are an insperation to us all. Tackling your debts head on is brilliant. So many put their heads in the sand. Every day I try to read your posts ~(both the highs and lows of your daily life) trying to get rid of debt makes me feel I am not alone.

I have decided after your posts to do something about my own situation.

I think I will start the ebaying thing(VERY NEW to me even though it has been going for years) and start clearing off debts.
Can you help us out with something? I have seen on ebay you either register an auction for free if it is under 99p or do you but a minimum amount on it.? Also do you normally do a 7day or ten day auction. Do you get what you are asking for or is it a drop in the ocean?
    Have you tried other websites?
I might have missed your comments on this before so sorry if I am repeating what has already asked.
Keep going we are all behind you.

PS best of luck finding a new car..

:rotfl:i am just as imaginative :p AND i sat there for a good 15 minutes trying to think of a clever one haha. They were all taken so i ended up as a debtfreewannabe !!! welcome! :j

Oh and as for the ebay, I always finish mine on a fri/sat/sun evening. I do 5/7/10 day listings ...say on a wednesday i will list for 10 days ....if i have things like x-box games i find 3 day listings to end on a sunday afternoon the best for more bidders....but i guess everyone will have something different to say :)

sorry you can have your thread bk now skint :D
