Well, as you could afford both the rent and to save for a deposit, it could be argued that you didn't NEED social housing and could have afforded to rent privately. But you took full advantage of the opportunity given to you. Of course, now that you have gained your advantage, you wish to remove that opportunity from others unless they think like you.

I am very happy that this person recieved cheaper housing which enabled them to save for a house of their own as the house that they were renting can now be passed onto somebody else who needs help in saving up a house deposit. unless its gone to a sponging scumbag who plans on staying in it for the rest of their lives then thats a bit wrong isnt it.

So do you admit that the council discourage people from putting their names on the housing list.

I never said they don't. I said it was managing expectation and that employment was not a bar to social housing. People are discouraged from doing many things, binge drinking, eating fatty foods, facial tattoos, driving thirsty cars, wearing blue with green.... but they still do it. Despite the advice given, your friends are still free to put their names on the list. No-one has said they can't. But, if that list is long and the availability is limited, I would have thought it more than reasonable for an adviser to advise the likely outcome.

You will never understand the meaning of society.

I said my friends were discouraged from putting their names on the housing list.

You then said that councils want big housing lists so that they are awarded money to build more properties.

And now follows the actual exact words you said that resulted in my friends being branded liars..................

And yet the length of the waiting list is a considerable factor in the award of grants for new builds. Why would they shoot themselves in the foot like that? Unless Jimmy's friends are telling porkie pies.

    Care to explain that.

For your information, I was a poor student when I moved into that flat, and was in their five years! After I finished at uni, I got a job and saved for a deposit. In that time I also inherited some money and started to look for a place to buy!

Don't think there was any need for the abusive post quite honestly! The usual judgemental nonsense on this boards. Get a life!

There certainly are some very RUDE and HOSTILE people on these boards, personally I think someone not a million miles away missed out on some of the stages of their development! They CAN ONLY express themselves in a poor way! They are charmless and incapable of reasonable, POLITE discussion!! Not to mention far too quick to jump to ALL the wrong conclusions!!

Why do debates often start of sounding intelligent, yet as I scroll through the pages they turn into name calling slanging matches?

This is why I come here. I love it. Keep up the good work.

Well this old chestnut has popped up again , I have lived in an association house in our village and it is one of the last few left as most were sold off by the council, when I moved in to this I was not permitted to buy it as the association chose not to sell it as it is now not a council house. we do have a difference between council and association rent is possibly £100 more, and as far as I am aware we have few council owned homes left possibly the ones that are, are in deprived areas.
My house is 1 of four all the others have been sold a few times and next door has just been sold foe £210k. I when I moved in was on a low wage and i have never had a drink /drug problem never been on benefits and all the other funny stereo type rubbish.
I then with my wife started our own business which has done very well. I abide by my contract and i am a very nice person to live next door to as are the majority of association and council tenants .
I have purchased a holiday let which we rent out and when I have saved enough and feel like it I will hand my house back to the association in excellent condition both in and out.
I paid for my own kitchen my own bathroom my own conservatory, with permission from the association and as such I will get my use out of them . my rent is £425 pm council tax £125 water rates £22 pm both the council tax and water rates are the same price as any home owner or private tenant private rent in the village is £850pm I do not have to pay it so that is that.
Is it wrong for me to remain in the house morally yes, legally no so to you whingers just because you cant take advantage of it tough I say .
Am I a scrounger no I pay my rent is it subsidized clearly but so are many things possibly used by the whingers.
I think it is very sad that people have such a low opinion of other people and base most of that on assumptions. We have from experience seen that many who complain about people like me, have been up to similar but in another field such as child tax credits, which having been pulled after 8 years of labor to people on incomes of £52k, oap's on winter fuel payments while minted or living abroad , before my business I worked as a 13 k a year caretaker , A college lecturer/senior manager on £42k and with 4 kids and a non working wife laughed and said to me you have 1 child as I HAD THEN then, and earn a piddling £13k and get less tax credits than me HA HA HA , when I took um bridge he turned around and said if your to thick to use the system in a legal way then you and people of your ilk get what they deserve .
I would also add my local councilor and indeed my conservative MP told me as long as you are playing by the rules it is nobody's business. So I suggest whingers get educated otherwise you will only ever aspire to a barratt home or you can have mine when I hand it back scheduled 2016 ish.
