just did ours last night... and afterwards, read this thread and realised the tree *is* colour co-ordinated, but quite by accident, and not with the room! The living room is pale cream walled with accents of red, and a blue sofa (i.e. red cushions, rug etc). Its not a very big room, gets a lot of sun (and has a back door onto the garden which is open in summer) and quite crowded with the furniture, so i decided to keep the decor simple. (plus there are long bookshelves stretching across one wall crowded with books).

the tree is a fake, 5ft, gifted to us on freecycle, quite a good one too. We did have a real one the last 2 years but when i saw this one on freecycle a few months ago i persuaded the OH to get it, even though we both love real trees, we just don't have the space to do one justice. The decorations are all silvery/blue/lilac in colour, quite by accident, i just prefer these colours, although i also like red and gold - but a good colour gold, there's quite a lot of gold tat out there. LOL. I'm not obsessive about the colour co-ordination, just about it being neat. OH won't let me have flashing multicoloured bulbs or go OTT with the decorations, so everything has to be quite subtle (god knows what he'll be like when we have kids). I'll try to post a pic later, i took some last night :)

we have a red and green colour decorated, including lights real tree in the dining room, overlooking the rear garden, and in the front bay window a white and silver one.

the first year we lived here we had the red lights in the window, which was lovely from the inside, but a bit suspect from the outside

they are both combinations of supermarket, old and given decorations over the years

these tree are very tastefully decorated until you see the handmade 25 year old fairy on the top, complete with drunken grin, made by DS1 in his first year at school, and I wouldnt change it for the world!

Ahhh lol It was something I really couldn't picture with little ones running loose ;) (I always thin of my sil when I see decs like these, in gorgeous houses like these, she's my age and yet to have kids, but winds ours up all the time,, she has such a shock to come bless her,, revenge ;) ) I have to say, once these two have packed up and left my decs will be much the same as yours. I keep finding myself lusting after the black and white ones recently, not at all child christmas, but I will be doing it when they're older :)

Happy christmas to you too :)

When she was little, the home & decorations were still pale & minimal, (always liked that show-home/hotel-bedroom look, LOL).
BUT I do realise with only one its probably easier.
However as I said in my first post my sister is worse than me & she raised three!!!!!! But shes exceptional.
My daughter has at last "aquired" the same taste as me & hates garish colourful decs.
This is my first Xmas in this home...........My neighbours almost opposite have the most outlandish lighting set up outside their home I have ever seen, you know those ones you see featured on local news programmes, one of them. Ever time I go in my kitchen after dark, it's like a disco over the road, trust me to end up living opposite them. LOL LOL LOL LOL

We don't have a tree inside but the one outside is nicely colour-co-ordinated with all the bushes and shrubs around it. :D:D:D:D

    And the lights we've put on it are subtlely (sp?) co-ordinated - being plain . . . . .
    Where now?
