Mine would be colour co-ordinated if I had any colour :-)

My home is netural through out, all the walls are cream or white. Pale oak wood (on the floors, kitchen cabinets, living room furniture, dining table ECT). Tiles are white (bathroom) or cream (kitchen). Chrome door handles, electric boxes, curtain rails, light fittings ECT.

I have an oversized rasberry red linen headboard, specially made & it's the ONLY bit of colour in my home.

If I were prime minister I would outlaw ALL xmas lights except white NON-flashing ones & also outlaw anything except those on the outside of peoples homes.

I like green garland type of decorations, with brown fir-cones in them. Green trees with brown bauballs & white lights. I like the sweedish lights for front windows.

I HATE any decs that hang off ceilings :-( or spray fluff sprayed on windows :-(

I'm guessing no children ;) Although this is how our house (before we moved) and we did have children. If yo intend to have children, will you change your ways to accomadate them?

I usually have 2 trees, one cream and gold, one deep red and gold. This yr our house is smaller, so I have put all the decs on the bigger of the tree's , so its gold, cream and deep red :) All the other decs co'ordinate, but with a lot of greenary. (going to bring some holly in from the garden soon too). The kids favourite stuff are the cheapo father christmas/snowmen ornaments you can get in the pound shops, bless.

We had matching deccys before we had our kids, but now it is a bit of a mish, but I do love all the decorations they make at nursery and school - so they all get pride of place.

I don't co-ordinate with the room at all as my house doesn't look like anything out of a decor magazine. It's a home, not a showroom.

But I do like to do the tree nicely every year. I have small white lights wound carefully to be even on all sides, then either gold or silver baubles on the outside of the tree (graduated to get smaller towards the top) with a second colour like purple, red or green set deeper in towards the 'trunk' to give it more optical depth.
I never use tinsel as I think it's tacky and looks terrible (remembering the messy trees while at school that looked as though the decs had just been thrown at it  ).
I don't care about the present wrappings either. Whatever paper (tasteful, of course! ;) ) I bought in last Jan's sale will be used :D .

LOL your tree sounds like ours, there are so many decorations on it that you can't actually see the tree!! We've had to ban my mother buying anymore tree decorations:D

I was going to colour co-ordinate this year but changed my mind due to lack of spare funds :D they had some lovely gold/beige/cream baubles in Asda aswell *sigh* not to worry my tree will be lovely anyway, and with the money I haven't spent on new decs I can put towards a pressie :) Thinking of getting them all in the Jan sales though ready for next year ;)

Have to admit that I gave away all coloured baubles and tinsel a few years ago and only kept the gold and clear stuff. Never was very good at decorating the tree and this way it looks fine and co-ordinated however I fling the stuff on.

I have had my artificial tree for 15 years plus and I think it still looks fine, my daughter wanted me to get a new one many years ago but tinsel hides any minor imperfections and I reckon I will get another 10 years out of it. How much use does a Xmas tree get anyway?

Actually no, one daughter. She's 19 now, but I've liked that pale netural showhome look since it became "fashionable".
My sister is even worse than me & she's raised three!!
I have a discussion (row) every year about my dislike of xmas decs in general. I love the way the interior mags do it, but think even they squeeze in to many.

I do have a green tree, white lights & baubals. Wreath for the front door. Swedish lights for the three front windows. Chrome card stands (can't put pins in the perfect walls, LOL), table wreath with candle (instead of the huge flat dish of grey stones with wicker balls that normally lives there). Have even bought 2 (yes 2!!) ceramic santas this year!! They are quite tasteful from Next.

  • my house is co-ordinated my tree never is thanks mainly to dd we have a mish mash of lights her pink barbie ones are her fave , lots and lots of stuff on it when we put it up will post a pic
  • I colour co-ordinate too, my tree decorations are all slliver with clear lights, I don't put tinsel on, just baubles, shiny and matt ones, snowflakes and a star. Of course my wrapping paper and even my christmas cards are silver too! I think it looks gorgeous, really simple and pretty!

My boyfriend freaked me out with his Christmas decorations a couple of years ago, they were all multicoloured and ALL over the house, things hanging from the ceilings and on the walls, last year though he threw out all his old decs and bought a really lovely fibre optic twig tree, it cost a fortune but looks amazing in the dark (you don't decorate it so its not quite as exciting putting it up)

Ahhh lol It was something I really couldn't picture with little ones running loose ;) (I always thin of my sil when I see decs like these, in gorgeous houses like these, she's my age and yet to have kids, but winds ours up all the time,, she has such a shock to come bless her,, revenge ;) ) I have to say, once these two have packed up and left my decs will be much the same as yours. I keep finding myself lusting after the black and white ones recently, not at all child christmas, but I will be doing it when they're older :)

Happy christmas to you too :)
