Afternoon all - hope we are well
Just a quick post before i fetch OH from work, at least he's talking to me on the phone, will see what tonight brings (again) - it will get sorted. It wants to do as we've allready started saving for our Florida wedding in 2008.
Welcome Mustafa say ving - im sure we'll go easy on you
Well done Melt71 for your promotion, you do right in asking for a payrise, I wouldnt want to work extra for the same pay! BUt then I read your second posting ref the 25p raise. Humph, again u do right to put an offer to them. You gotta sell yourself gal, it will be there loss if they dont agree a suitable offer.
Work was ok, other girl was left in charge again, manager was out at another branch training, and surprise surprise, she was searching for car insurance again. So I offered to help her - whats good for one is good for the other! I rang an old work colleague up who works for an insurance company, so had good natter to him for ages. Didnt get a good deal, but at least I skived for a while. Did an hr's overtime also just to help out till the other girl off sick returns.
Got to help DD with her xmas cards later for her school friends. DS is old enough to do his own. I did mine the other night, so dont really fancy this job again.
WM on this morning before work, thats drying now in the TD, 2nd load of washing just gone in.
Uniforms for work/school done for 2mr, animals fed, not a clue what we'll be having, as I forgot to take the mince out.
Must go and make a start on sorting stuff out for kids camping trip at the weekend
Have a lovely evening everyone

Productive day but also another expensive one - after cleaning the dyson and putting it all back together I found a huge tear in a flexipipe and a crack in another part......that explains why it wasn't working properly. Ended up going out to buy a new one. Normally I'd order that sort of thing online and go via quidco but I needed one TODAY!...... And boy can you tell it's new - it nearly took the carpet up.....you forget just how good a hoover can be.
I've got 2 dining chairs built, 2 lamp tables and a coffee table....screw driver is on charge so time for a sit down and surf before cooking DD's dinner. Only got another 2 chairs, dining table, console table, TV unit and merchants chest to do  - Looks great tho.
Forgot to order my copy of the new book, I shall drop some big hints to DH, did get a letter from the library to say they've got the tightwad gazzette in for me :j
Right - onwards and kitchen bound.......have a good evening all."Start every day off with a smile and get it over with" - W. C. Field.0 -
Been working from home today, so had a surprisingly productive day on both the work front & the home front. White wash done, washing up done (by hand *sob*, new DW is coming on Monday) and some xmas cards addressed ready for posting. Went to Asda at lunchtime ( what? I needed to post my expenses
) and bought bread flour, yeast & skim milk powder to go with OH's breadmaker I've bought him for Christmas. D'you think I should wrap them up & give them to him first? :rotfl:
Now I'm off to do a spot of ironing and make OH some mince pies. Cod in parma ham for tea, with some sort of potato & some form of carrot.
Have also emailed lightspeed research to chase up a £5 voucher I redeemed in October that hasn't materialised yet. Has anyone else had issues with them?
Hope you all have a lovely evening :wave:0 -

Thanks for that Bargain! I didn't know that and have been just looking up people's profiles.
Thanks for the congrats on "my anniversary". Sadly, it's not me, its jelly who has the anniversary today. Can I still have an anniversary even though I'm separated?
Welcome to the newbies. Hope you enjoy this forum. It's packed full of ideas.
DS and I aren't talking at the moment. He has behaved very badly this afternoon and he is perfectly aware of how disappointed and annoyed I am at him. He keeps apologising to me but I'm still too angry at him to just let him think it's ok to behave outrageously then apologise two minutes later and everything will be fine. FTB would you like a 5' 11" 14yo? Probably not, but its worth a try.
Anyway, back to taming a hormonal 14yo giant. (sighhhhhhhhhhh)"Bad planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part."

Yum, that sounds nice!Pooky wrote:ftbworried - You can borrow my kids if you like
Genius! :T Why didn't I think of that? the lady next door has loads of kids I'm sure she wouldnt mind lending one or two...
Picked up our beloved pooch and OMG  i hardly recognise him (although his blinkin bark hasnt changed  ). He went from a curly fluffy rag-doll/ old victorian bear type thing to something you'd see skipping around a ring at crufts (Well, not quite!!!). He's smells nice tooInfact I shall probably post a before and after picture in a min (hubby wants me to email him a pic of his new haircut too).
EDIT: BEFORE http://i100.photobucket.com/albums/m38/braydobson/barney/barney.jpg
AFTER: http://i35.photobucket.com/albums/d152/umistgirl/bear/DSCF0005.jpg
Wonder if his nickname of "The Bear" (the dogs, not the hubby's!!) will still stick now he no longer looks like a bear.... He DOES look tidier but I loved the fact that he was all scruffy and curly before- it was part of his charm.
Think I'd better get him (the bear) a coat failry soon as now he's de-fluffed I bet he's gonna be cold on his walks.... oh wait! I could make him one!....no, I think the OS has gone far enough for one day! (I can't sew anyway!)0 -
afternoon!!
having a bit of a lazy day today (or at least, a break from the sewing).. we had an appointment with our debt adviser over the gas (long story) and when we got there we were told she was off sick...  most annoyed, they really could have telephoned to tell us!
anyway, part of the reason for the appt was because the gas think we're a business customer (and charging us accordingly, i think), and we've been disputing the bills. the debt adviser has been mediating for us since last july, and has taken 6 months to get the company to agree (or so she said) that we *are* residential customers and not business. then we got a "business gas contract renewal" letter through the post, saying if we didn't contact them by 7th dec, they would assume we were happy with a unit kWh price rise to 4.46 (whereas before we were on 2.83!) this would have meant, with just cooking and hot water gas (and keeping the heating off) we would have been charged £1,000 by the time the winter was over - and we're a small 1 bed flat!   anyway, because of the time delay OH finally got on the phone to them (he hates dealing with people over the phone and i can't do it) ... and it took 10 minutes to sort it out. he gave them our council tax number, the residential thing is backdated to February 05 when we first started getting our own gas (instead of via the housing) and dual fuel discount, also applied retrospectively. We've handed over accurate meter readings for both gas and electric... and they've promised to send out new, accurate bills. With luck, it will wipe out a lot of the money that we owe them, and then we can sort out stable direct debits and switch to online billing to take advantage of as many discounts as possible.
the mad christmas-pressie-quest is going well... i've done almost all the presents, just go to finish a bunch of rice bags (i.e. put rice into them, sew them up) and the quilt for my gran. that's the biggie. Tomorrow is Shopping Day - i go into Ashton and do various bits of shopping and then to Tescos, spend lots of money to keep us fed for 2 weeks - friday i'll be popping to Asda to get the things that are cheaper/that we prefer from there.
Its "Nigella's christmas kitchen" on the box tonight. I adore Nigella, and i'm quite happy at the moment given that there's Rick stein's food heroes and Heston on tuesday nights. Thats something that will never change, i think, no matter how much money i have or don't have, i'm a passionate foodie - both eating and cooking - and i love to learn about different types of food and methods of preparation. so i think i'll just curl up with Nigella, a bunch of christmas cards, and then watch the schmaltzy, soppy, but festively glorious "Love Actually" after that. that'll make me happy
hope everyone else has a good day!

Mrs_Mix: East Manchester, Openshaw to be exact. although i'm probably geographically half way between Ashton and Manchester city centre, i have to say that i prefer Ashton, its such a nice market town (and i love the markets there, i can't wait for the indoor market building to reopen, shame i never saw the old one), i only venture into Manchester city centre these days if i need to go to one of the big shops or the dressmaking/fabric shop.
what about you, where are you now?

I loved that market and the hall it was brill I was the manager of the pizza and potato factory opposite the market hall --is it still there
I come from Eastbourne and lived in Oldham for about 18 months with my first husband until the marriage started to break down so I moved back to eastbourne where all my family are (except 1 brother who lives in shaw)

The hall burnt down a few years ago, just after i moved to manchester (to be with OH), about all that was left was the brick facade. the first time i went to Ashton it was all boarded off while they tried to get the funding to rebuild it, which they're doing now. They moved the old indoor market to some tempoary buildings behind the old market hall (the other side of the market from the outdoor market).
i don't think i've noticed the pizza and potato factory. which side of the market hall do you mean? I can have a look for you tomorrow if you like, but i've only been going to Ashton for a year and a half or so so if its not there, i'd be clueless as to whats there now!
Eastbourne's a nice part of the world - although you guys have been hammered with the wind lately, more so than we have! I've lived all over before i moved to manchester, mostly in birmingham. OH is dutch, so neither of us are original mancunians!!!
