Thanks Peach and lyndsay...you are both lovely and it's nice that people are taking an interest in my diary...I'm honoured...I have done what I can for now..frustrating as it is..but I do feel my turning point is when I return from my holidays..hence that would've been when I would've started this diary...thankfully some lovely people encouraged me to start now...my problem is I always want to run before I can walk...I get frustrated with myself...
I have an appointment with the financial advisor at the bank next wednesday...I am hoping that they may be able to give me an high interest account(for savings)...before you all scream at me that when people are in debt to the amount I am...they shouldn't be saving...I believe I am an exception to the rule as I am self-employed...my idea is to save a set amount in it p/m so that I can pay my tax bill each january..(any left over) then will pay the debt laft...if you know what I mean..told you everything is complicated..I can't factor repairs into my budget either..they have to be paid by whatever the cheapest means possible at that time..so you will always see the overdraft up and down probably until about july then everything will kick in..I wish I could get taxi insurance via quidco ...imagine the cashback on that...£1,500 p/a...that gets paid in full in september as if you pay via dd it costs 10% extra...so please bear with me it's not that I spend excessively(cigs yes,but they are going and that money is straight off debt)...if at anytime anybody doesn't understand whatI'm going on about..please feel free to ask...thanks for listening..:rotfl:0 -
HI taxi73
DEFINITELY set up that savings account for tax. I'm self-employed and like you awaiting a big tax bill in January.
The reason I got into debt in the first place was by not saving for tax. For several years I took out loan after loan just to pay tax.
As of 1 January 2007 I will put 22% of all my earnings into a saving account, and hope this builds up enough for tax and other one-off expenses.
I hope you have a fabulous time in Goa. I went there 8 years ago, it's a beautiful place. One word of warning - you do get pestered a lot by people trying to sell souvenirs and other stuff. It's easy to get annoyed with them but I found it helped to talk to them, ask why they are doing this work, how much money they make, etc. If they start to see you as a friendly person rather than just another walking wallet you get to hear their stories and find what a hard life it is and just why they are so desperate to sell that tat! For me this was the most rewarding part of the holiday really, getting a glimpse of a totally different way of life.
Good luck

Hi seaxywyn ...thankyou for that post...it confirms what I was thinking...I like yourself have gone into debt to pay the taxman...I am lucky that my bank lets me have a very large overdraft..though I would be horrified if I ever got close to it..I will use this to pay the taxman this year and it will clear itself in a few months...winter is such a hard time in my business but I've just had 3 months off due to an op so that's compounded things..I thank my lucky stars that I manage to pay all the bills etc and haven't missed anything...but when totalling my debts up ...it horrified me...I just need to plan a lot better but you can't know what's going to happen in the future.
I know about all the beggars in goa and will talk to them as it's interesting to hear their stories.I was a serial shopper(food)...but I haven't done a shop for weeks as I have 2 freezers and cupboards full of food..tell a lie I buy bread and milk...also I have more cleaning products than tescos ...so will not be buying anymore and loads of toiletries..so am using all that up before buying anything...:beer:0 -
