I hate supermarket shopping!! I get very stressed in those places. Had to go to Tescos today to do the first big shop for ages (can't you tell it was payday!) and got all hot and bothered - and it is still 3 and a half weeks to Christmas!!

I think I will serve pasta at Christmas - to save me going out again :o

There are often freezers offered on freecycle but our kitchen is so tiny and I really don't want a freezer in any other room. Now if only OH would clear a bit of space in the shed....

Our kitchen is very small as well which is the reason I was going to move but have decided to build an extension instead..my fridge and both freezers are in my dining room at the moment...I couldn't live without them as they save me a fortune in money and time xxx
  • I like the freezer in the house too, but unfortunately mine is 22 years old and on its last legs and makes a lot of noise now as it's working. It's a huge chest freezer and has been a godsend money-saving wise. Fortunately there is room for it to fit at the far end of the kitchen but DH(who has superhuman hearing:eek: ) is forever moaning about the noise it makes. I once tried putting it in the garage but it soon became a resting place for piles of his 'junk' so I got him (very reluctantly) to bring it back inside.

When/if we ever get an extension built I'm insisting on a utility room so I can keep the freezer(hopefully a new one by then) in there. Well, I can dream can't I?

Afternoon Imp and everyone...I'm dreaming of my extension too which will become reality once I'm debt free..so a long time yet as I want to pay for it with cash saved...
Today has been ok ..had a half decent day on the cab..but have come home as the match is on in a bit and it gets too hectic to drive anywhere...a NSD today as usual but thats only because I don't go any where...theres loads of bills due out on monday but I'm sure I've got all the money in the bank to cover them anyway..so won't have to go into the o/d so thats good as usually I hit the o/d at this time of month...I may even have some left over to make an overpayment on egg as well but won't know until my MS bill comes in the next day or two...I pay that one in full each month....
I'm trying my best to get the full total for clearing the Barclaycard...I had an idea to take what I'm short out of the tax savings as I don't need to pay any tax now until jan 2009..so it's spare anyway...so I can afford to use anything in there up until jan anyway as I put £100 p/w away...so that is over £5k even if I use whats already in there....and there's no way I need that amount...so this is probably what I will do...I won't need to use all of it as I have quite a bit towards it here anyway....mind made up now..I'll def do that and that's another one gone...
I wonder if I can get under £35k by christmas..that would be nice and such a boost....mmmmm

  • Hi taxi

I agree with you about using the tax savings to pay off some of the debt, especially as you won't be needing it until 2009. Everyone's advice (and I'm sure it's Martin's too) is that people with debts shouldn't have savings as the little bit in interest they gain is swallowed up(and more) by the interest on the debts:eek: . It's sensible I suppose, but the comfort-blanket of a little put by for emergencies or tax is difficult to get rid of isn't it? Even if you use it to clear a debt you'll have plenty of time to save towards the 2009 tax bill a bit nearer the time. I'm sure whatever you decide will be the right thing as you always seem to know what's best for you.

I hope you get your extension one day. DH will be doing ours(sometime never:rolleyes: ) and in some ways I'd rather not have one than the chaos and problems we'll have to survive by having one:rotfl:

Hi Imp...it's some challenge..I'm actually gaining on the interest though as both CCs are on 0%..barclays due to be paid next July and egg by next may but I don't want to have to tart them again..I just want rid of them...I started putting the £100 p/w away as I thought I would have a big tax bill but I haven't so I will have loads of time to start it in january ready for next year...I don't ever want to put my tax bill on my o/d or cc again....
RE the extension ..I will get it but it will probably be about 6 years as after paying all this off ...I want to pay my mortgage off and then it'll not take me long to save up to have the jobs done...that's great that your OH is talented enough to manage such projects...mine is useless at anything like that but he's good at earning on the cab..so that can be his contribution..lol..
Getting to grips with the budgets is the best thing I've accomplished this year as it's hard to know what money you've really got when your SE..so putting this money away assures me that I have enough for the tax and any left over can go off debt or on something for the house and it doesn't feel like I've saved up for it...IYSWIM...take care xx
