Just to let you all know that michs dad rang me to say that his ashes have been interned in his sisters grave, along with the ashes of his mother, in a service that was attened by family members.

Martin sent flowers on behalf of all of us at MSE, and i'm sure i speak for all of us here when i say a VERY BIG Thank You Martin, for being so thoughtful, not only to the family, but to all of us here who will i am sure take comfort from the thought.

For myself, i have to say that never before have i been a part of such a wonderful community, thanks Martin, and thanks to you all.

    xx

  • I just want to say a big thank you to gentlepurr and Maria (who unfortunately is without internet access at the moment or would have been posting her thoughts here) for being the best friends that micheleen could ever have had throughout this past year.

I know he really appreciated their friendship and was thrilled to bits to meet gp, despite her driving, and would loved to have met Maria too. It was a big step for micheleen to meet up with us mad MSE users back in the summer but boy did he have a great day out and it was an honour to meet this gentle man.

Many lives have changed this past year since beer2006 started the first alcohol thread not least by the friendships made because of this thread. It had its ups and downs but the downs made many people the stronger because of it. micheleen, gp and Maria held a lot of people together while fighting their own courageous battles and for this I thank you all.

    Sleep well mich.

    xx
  • I was at a funeral recently when this was read out and it made me think of mich. micheleen's family can be very proud of how he "spent his dash" on MSE. Thanks to MSE Andrea and Martin for helping and allowing this thread to be here.

I read of a man who stood to speak
at the funeral of a friend.
He referred to the dates on her tombstone
    from the beginning...to the end.

He noted that first came her date of birth
and spoke the following date with tears,
but he said what mattered most of all
was the “dash” between those years. (1934 -1998)

For that dash represents all the time
that she spent alive on earth...
and now only those who loved her
know what that little line is worth.

    For it matters not, how much we own;
    the cars...the house...the cash,
what matters is how we live and love
and how we spend our “dash”.

So think about this long and hard...
are there things you'd like to change?
For you never know how much time is left,
    that can still be rearranged.

If we could just slow down enough
to consider what's true and real,
    and always try to understand
    the way other people feel.

And be less quick to anger,
    and show appreciation more
and love the people in our lives
    like we've never loved before.

If we treat each other with respect,
and more often wear a smile...
    remembering that this special “dash”
might only last a little while.

So, when your eulogy's being read
with your life's actions to rehash...
would you be proud of the things they say
about how you spent your “dash”?

Thank you Eddilass, for both your lovely posts. i just dont know what to say. mich was one of the kindest people i ever knew, and i so enjoyed the special friendship i was priveledged to share with him, and my dear friend Maria.

I have to say, i have always valued the friendships i have made on MSE, and particularly beers alcohol thread, God knows how i would have got through everything i did without the support and friendship there. Losing mich has made me realise how much everybody means to me, and just how very real a virtual friendship can be.

I for one, appreciate the way mich spent his dash, and i know he lived his life spending his dash so wisely, perhaps we could all learn something from him, i know i can.
