    Also, consider this.

The $ / £ exchange rate is very vavourable right now. This means that you may well find a US supplier (or other foriegn shores that takes USD) that will work out even cheaper once you take into account a exchange rate of around 1.9 dollars to the pound.

I bought a .mobi domain from GoDaddy last week for half the price I could have got it in the UK.

I believe you have to have the adverts because you chose the free option. If you want an ad-free page you need to chose the option you pay for.

I'm now in the process of moving 18 domains and hosting to Fasthosts (UK Reg) and can't get there quick enough.

    Hi Mr_Gordon,

I sympathize with you, I know that moving domain and web hosting can be a painful (and time consuming) experience. I'm interested into your experience with Fasthosts as it is one of the most well known businesses in the field. Any kind of feedback would be interesting.

Did you just did it because of the credit card incident with 1&1 or was there something more?

    Regards,

I use www.fxdomains.com as well and I'm quite happy with them. Especially if you are going for more domain names (different extensions etc) and maybe need some hosting as well, you're quite well off as ALL their products are low priced which is often a problem with other registrars where maybe one extension might be cheap but then they sting you on things like forwarding/masking etc while at fxdomains, you really get everything included for a very low price.
What I like especially is that you get a real email account (pop3) with every domain registration so one where you can't just receive emails but also sent using your own domain name (as you get 250 email relays free per day).
I stick with them as overall I haven't found a better deal yet..

    Hi Sbaraka,

FXDomains is another Godaddy reseller so I wouldn't think that anyone gets any real value out of them instead of going directly to Godaddy.

It's not a nice thing but just like any other thing in life it seems like 80% of the domain registrations and domain hosting business is being operated by only a few companies such as, Godaddy, 1&1 (especially in the USA), Melbourne etc They have the ability to offer more services for a smaller price and thus they get the competition out of the way (and we, the consumers are happier at the end ;) )

Yeah - I thought their backends looked quite familiar ;-) - I actually still have some names with Godaddy (which at sometime I will probably move to fxdomains as well). The funny thing is - a lot of prices on fxdomains.com are actually lower as godaddy so I guess their resellers are allowed to set their own prices. Few examples:

    https://www.godaddy.com:
    .COM - 8.95
    .ORG - 7.49
    .INFO - 4.99
    Private registrations - 4.99

    https://www.fxdomains.com:
.COM - 6.95 (on offer, but normal price is $7.85 I believe so still lower)
    .ORG - 6.95
    .INFO - 4.75
Private registrations - 1.99 (also on offer I think but has been this price for months now)

I couldn't really find any price differences between their hosting plans and really couldn't find a single price that was higher (only lower) on fxdomains compared to godaddy.

I'd actually prefer going for a smaller reseller like fxdomains (although looking at their Alexa rank - they are not that small) as I know that their backend/cashflow/life expectancy is guaranteed by the parent company while you can benefit from more personal support and in this case lower prices overall as well.

    Simon.

    This is brillaint. Rated.

GoDaddy are offering free privacy at the moment if you register 3 or more domains. I think there is also a referral site that gets you a discount at GoDaddy.

I want cheap, easy and reliable domain reg and hosting. GoDaddy in one form or another looks front runner at the moment. Am also thinking of GatorHost for hosting.

Any suggestions for forums that specialise in domains/hosting, because this seems so complicated.

Really useful thread, thanks to the OP for starting it and all the useful information provided.

    Regards
