  • Oh well, got received my letter of rejection today and my cheque back. 1 satisfied default and earn over 40k. Pretty sad as I feel I missed my chance by a matter of days.

Just a word of warning about the debit card you get with this account, I have found to my cost that although it is a Visa debit the card is still rejected in various places. This seems to be mainly in places which don't use chip and pin machines.

I went shopping last week and my card got declined for £12 when there was £1800 in the account.

It appears that the transactions have to be authorised each and every time unlike some other visa debit cards.

I know this was posted a while ago but thought I would reply...

I rang Citibank about this as it was happening to me in various places. I was told that they will not approve transactions where you use the card in a shop without a Chip & Pin machine, It's a kinda Security measure to stop your card being used by someone else. A nice idea but kinda annoying.

This doesn't stop your card being accepted on CNP (customer not present) sales, ie. Mail order/Internet shopping.

It's only really affected me in two places so far, Tesco 'Pay @ Pump' (but works fine if you pay at the kiosk) and maplins electronics who dont have chip & pin at all.

Hope this is of use to someone :)

Unles people applied for the account via quidco prior to Oct 2006 then nobody will have there £50.

As everyone is aware it tracks as £1 then changes to £50 when received. Well my £1 is paid and I emailed quidco and they advised that Citi have only paid up until the end of Oct so far. So I suspect we are in for a long wait

  • I should think by 2010 all shops should be chip n pin as they should be now it was 1 year old the other day, and should be law by that time, these shops that dont have it cant be bothered to up-grade to chip n pin or cant afford too, thanks for your input I havent had any probs with my card, and I always ask as I am going in to the shop are you chip n pin if they say no I walk back out, or make sure I have enough money to pay for my goods, but those shops that are not chip n pin should be prepared to lose afew customers if they cant be bothered why should we be bothered to shop with them,

CW I agree 100% with you re this subject, I have not been caught out with this as yet. I did question Citi re this and they said "security". I then moaned and said not all shops/retailers have this option, there reply go elsewhere. It made me laugh.

Places that do not have chip and pin in Edinburgh - Tesco Petrol, Morrisons Cig Kiosk - Poundstretcher -
