I used my card for the first time in the co-op the other day, and Iwanted to see how long it would take to come from my account. When I got back home I checked my balance and the money I had spent had been deducted from my account. By that I mean the balance was showing that funds had gone but the transaction did not show on my account until a few days later.

So far each transaction I have made (in shops) has not come off for a couple of days. By that I mean the balance has not altered nor does the transaction show!

I wonder how accomodating of poor credit ratings they are on their loans/credit cards? Has anyone applied?

I'm not sure for people with less than perfect credit history, mine is fine and I have just got their bmiBaby credit card.

Funny that it seems to work in different ways for different people, I used mine in M&S yesterday and the money and the balance altered by 7pm last night!

I'm one of these people that keeps a running total of all their accounts so although I know what I am spending/what I have left, it was nice to see that it went through almost immediately, unlike Natwest who seemed to take around 4 days to take money from my account.

If you don't have a very good credit rating then you won't have much success with there credit cards and overdraft.

    I have tried without success.

Are you having your salary paid into your citibank account? And they still said no to an overdraft??

    That is perfect for me.
I don't want the temptation of overdrafts and credit cards. All I wanted was a debit card which I now have.
Abbey gave me an overdraft too quickly a few years ago and that is where I got into trouble and why I now have a bad credit rating.

  • up-date, on citibank, got paperwork in between xmas and new year, sent it off last week with 3 types of proof ID, got proof of ID back next day with letter saying it will take 15 days to process, so wish me luck everyone as I hope I get one, as I don't have a very good credit rating, who does now adays, it seems you only have to cough and you get a poor credit rate.

I am just a couple of weeks ahead of you. I got my 15 day letter just before Christmas and this week I got my dollar account cheque and paying in book, plus my UK Visa debit card. On closer inspection, on the rear of my card is the £100 cheque guarantee hologram, so it is a guarantee card too. Have been online and ordered my UK cheque book.

My credit file is a little tarnished too, so I am sure that your account will be opened ok.

    Good luck!

Thanks to everyone who has written on this thread. I have spent the past hour reading it all.

I applied for this account last night and got the email today from them, telling me what they need.

I don not have the best credit record in fact mines is terrible, I do have in excess of £1800 going through my bank account at present. If I get this account I will use this as my main account.

    I live in hope!!!

Oh If I get this account I will get so many bargains online.

    Fingers crossed

Thanks for this thread. I am about to try and claim back 2k+ charges from Norwich & Peterborough and needed another account with a cheque book. My credit history is bad but I am encouraged by the posts on here from people in a similar situation who have been successful. Iwill let you all know how I get on

    Thanks guys
