    Oooh - I love a bargain!!

I've had quite a few so far - h2b's getting a bit worried at the amount of time I've spent trawling the net looking for bargains... Lol...

Alfred Angelo Dress in my size reduced from £1080 to £400

Where did you get your dress from? I have fallen in love with an Alfred Angelo dress and would love a bargain if poss!! Thank you
Thanks to all those who post competitions! :T
:j 2012 wins :j Just Pink eau de toilette for women :heart2: Me & My Plant Book :heart2: Cadbury's Bubbly Chocolate Bar :heart2:
  • I have just made my flowers, went to a gardencentre that does lovely imitation flowers, chose some that I like that match my theme perfectly, made them into bouquets, cut the ends off with a pair of metal cutters, tied them with florists wire then wrapped ribbon round and finished with rafia so they have nice handles. Only took a few hours and they look amazing!

My one cost about £30 and the bridesmaids ones £8 each :j

My dress was not quite the bargain I hoped for but was still good...I had hoped to find a dress I liked on ebay. While trying dresses on to find the right type I tried a dress on in the shop it had only just come in and I was first one to try on.....I fell in love with it ...should have been £599 but as I needed it off peg got it for £499 and she threw in my daughters dress (£60) so technically my dress was £439 which I don't think is bad tbh.
The dj knocked £20 off as it was short notice and was told we were on a budget lol ;)
Cakes I'd been quoted £100 for but think we going for m&s which will cost us around £65 for 3 tier cake
Flowers for me, daughter, buttonholes cost me £60 as auntie did them for me
Cars are free :p we using our own cars as we both have silver cars...ribbons costing me £3 as auntie gave me whole roll of ribbon to make bows with...and a bow maker.
Rings...mine cost £20 as I'm having his nan's and it needed resizing..OH worried I wasn't happy with having 2nd hand...but told him I'll be honoured to wear it as it means so much to him...and that you can't buy...his cost me £115 but while looking for his size they were quoting me around £200+ the woman in jewellers said well there's this one...and we can resize for free....mmmm £200+ or £115 and can be resized...yes please :rotfl: when she weighed it the one I had resized weighed more than the more expensive one...not sure how that works lol :p
Trying to look for cheap deco's now ;)

I admit i have not read ALL the threads on this page in thier entirity, so I apologise if I am repeating myself, but I thought i would share some money saving tips with you.

I am getting "married" (civil partnership) in 2012, and some o these tips i have picked up from friends, and some i figured out myself.

ok, where we started VISTAPRINT! Believe it or not!

we saw an advert to get 250 business cards for free, and I thoughthmmm whats wrong with using those as save the date cards? So we ordered them, paying only p&p.

Then they send us regular emails with further offers.
You can only have FOUR free items per order, but you can make as many as orders as you want.

We have paid only p&p on all the following:

save he date cards (business cards)
thank you cards (again business cards - we plan to make a photo and music dvd after the wedding and pop the business cards inside)
canvass bags saying thanks for being our bridesmaids, three matching mugs and 3 matching pens,

2 banners saying congratulations, they say theyre small on the website, but honestly theyre plenty big enough for a reception venue and are vinyl too!

100 postcards saying thank you for sharing this day with us, these are going on the guests seats at the ceremony venue..

there are also many other offers, and as i say once you make one order they send you regular emails with further free items, such as a free t shirt, or baseball cap, lawn sign, christmas cards, etc etc. And they have some nice free designs suitable for weddings.

Ebay is where we plan to get our dresses, as already mentioned on here.

we found some summery cotton white cocktail dresses in ebay for £11.9, free postage. We recently bought one to see if it was suitable, and the bridesmaids all agree it is, and what a bargain! We are also buying organza chair wraps off ebay, for 99p free postage, to tie round the bridesmaids wrists, and white satin look dolly bags for 99p plus 39p postage!

We are having somone make our cake, and invitations, and we plan to use ebay for a lot of our decorations as well, ou theme is butterflies so here are endless things we can do with that, from making 200 oragami ones to using ebay to find cheap ones!

Using a family member as photographer, and family friend to do our make up.

then we're having an afternoon bbq reception in a families garden, before heading off to a hall at a cheap social club after (once decorated with drapes flowers etc etcit'll look as nice as some expensive flashy venue.

    hope this helps!

    And all for 40p!!!!:j:j:j

Now I need to find a book with Gary in the title . . . Mmm the serach commences!

My matron of honours dress (well dresses) I got two debenhams debut dresses in burgundy brand new for £28 tags on them said £70 each. I also paid £7 for her tiara which was Jon Richards with RRP of £30, my two daughters tiara's I paid £12 for them both when they should have been £12 each. RSVP cards £4.18 for 100, I used vistaprints postcards which were on offer for free all I paid was postage. That's it so far but I'm bargain hunting constantly.
  • I'm still looking for bargains but so far -

My dress bought on eBay originally £1250 paid £115 including postage and the woman also included a veil! The woman wanted a quick sale due to personal problems and didn't need the dress anymore and just wanted some money towards it :T

I've used vista print for my stationary, we got 250 business cards which we used for RSVP cards, these were free just paid postage. Also day and evening invites about 100 I think, 140 return address labels for RSVP envelopes and 100 place cards all for £54 but postage was quite a lot :o
On eBay bought floristry envelopes to put the RSVP cards in 100 for £5, lovely shimmery silver colour :)

Were going to do a disk only photography package, he will be there for the bridal prep right through to the evening and give us a disc with all the edited images, a DVD slide show and photos with special effects like black and White with colour popping out for £299. Were then going to make our own photobox online however much that costs :)

I bought our ring pillow for the page boy to carry for £2.50 from our local "sells everything" shop :rotfl: lovely white pillow with a silver linked double heart on it with White ribbon but I might add some purple ribbon to it :)

There have been a few other little bits like 20 large bows for the church pews form eBay for £6 instead of flowers and a car decoration kit £1.50 with ribbon and bows :)

    Happy bargain hunting :T

errrrrmmmm... we got married in the Very Olden Days. I'd been a student for 4 years and had £200 credit in the bank. Himself had been working in a good job for aaaaages but was £200 overdrawn. So, one way and another we had our work cut out not to go into debt, but we managed it! We:

    * borrowed a drop parachute (the OH was in the RAF) to use as a marquee for the garden
    * did a barbeque as the evening meal - he went fishing for brown trout for a month before and froze the fish as he caught them!
    * bought all the fruit and veg for the food at the market, and did a deal - everything came in at under £20
*bought a HUGE ham at a 50% discount from the local butcher, who then sliced it for us - we took the unused ham back to him and he vacuum packed it for us, and we lived off it for the first three months!
    * made junket as the dessert for the wedding, and splashed out on one (yes one!) strawberry on the top of each pudding for every guest
*got the local pub to flog us a barrel of beer at cost as the bar staple we ran for the evening! (they made their profit margin from my brother, who's a lager drinker, and who scuttled down there at regular points as the day wore on!)
*Used flowers from the F-I-L's garden for all the flowers for the day except for my bouquet and circlet, which I spent a mahooosive tenner on - again, haggled down from a local flower shop...

We had a great time, with one of the highlights being my lovely F-I-L being so merry he toasted the 'Hoppy Capple' before upending his deckchair in the flower bed. Ahhhh. Those were the days!
