Aaaaaaargh! My dress is never going to fit. I got a bargainous corset (from corsets-uk via Facebook) which slims my waist/back etc by five inches. The dress now fits me round the middle but is still four inches apart over my boobs! I've lost nearly 5 stone over the past 18 months but my actual boob (IYKWIM) hasn't changed size - I've dropped from a 46 back to a 36 and the cup has gone up from a D/DD to an F.

So - I've got to decide whether to get the back altered (it's currently a zip) to a lace-up style or just bite the bullet and buy another dress (and sell this one).
We may not have it all together, but together we have it all

  • What with buying a house, our wedding was always going to have to be a budget do. With Ebay and mates rates, we've managed to get everything we want and not spend a fortune.

Ebay bargains - Dress (should have been £600, won it for £135 and it fits as though it was made to measure), shrug (£20 when similar ones in Debenhams are £60), petticoat (£19 instead of £35 at places like Honeypie boutique).

Mates - cupcakes (£100 for 100 and stand hire, they normally charge £140 for the cupcakes and £40 for the set-up and hire), photography (£400 for two photographers over multiple locations and albums, half their usual price), venue (free hire of the room seeing as I work there), make-up (free... a mate of my Mum is doing it in return for an invite to the reception), hair (free.. my Mum is doing it).

Other than that, I've bought glass bowls for my sweet buffet from a local charity shop at £1 each and they look lovely. My flat ballet pumps for the evening I bought from Tesco kid's section (which goes up to an adult size 6) for £5. And I used a Travelzoo voucher to book half price spa treatments the day before the wedding so I'm not totally stressed out!

I had seen some lovely purple glass candle holders but at £4.99 each I refused to buy them.

Popped back into the store this weekend and they'd been reduced to £1.49!:j:j:j

So instead of spending £60 they cost me £18!!:T:T:T

Congratulations on your weight loss but it sounds like you are naturally busty so it's definitely time to look at changing the dress to fit you. I would get some prices before making a decision, get some quotes for altering your dress to a lace-up style, see how much dresses like yours are selling for second-hand to see how much you could expect to get back if you went that route and browse dresses for sale to see what you would be able to afford. Good luck!

  • My friend's getting married in November and we've managed no end of bargains!

*Her dress was reduced from £899 to £350 with free alterations

*My dress cost £10 from ebay!! Got it on Best Offer, had been on for £40, then £30 then was on for £15, I put in a best offer of £10 and got it! Plus
    £2.99 p&P

*Her satin boots were half price, so £30 instead of £60

*My red satin pump style shoes (which match the dress colour exactly) were reduced to £3 in Primark

*I'm making the favours, cost for 100 plastic bags, 100 red organza bags, poppy seeds to fill the 100 plastic bags, 100 small packs of love hearts and making 100 labels with a poem on them has been just under £20 altogether.

*I designed the wedding invites on Vistaprint with a picture of the church they're getting married in, 80 day & 30 night for £17 odd.

*She's making the cake herself at a cost of less than £10 per tier (4 tiers)

*Her MILTB used to be a florist and she's doing the table decorations at a cost of £4 each all in, only need 8

*HTBs suit was £40 from Matalan

*My dad's doing the pro-am photography for free

*The table cloths were £2 each and organza table runners were £1.50 each

*Mr & Mrs sign for top table £3.95

*Postbox for cards £5.69, ribbon to decorate £1.00

*Spandex chair cover for bride & groom £8 for 2, chair sashes for their chairs £1.98 for 2

Ebay is a god send for a wedding on such a tight budget as my friends. That and a bit of dedication to hunting down your deals! :)
