I was actually discussing the implant with my GP yesterday. Apparently Implanon isn't used anymore it was replaced towards the end of last year with Nexplanon.

Has anybody had the Nexplanon implant?

Yes this is the one I had put in yesterday, couldnt tell you about any side effects yet though

Yes. Bleeding, bleeding and more bleeding:mad: Then it stopped for ages and no sign of AF so had to do a pg test:eek:

Having read the other posts I now realise that I am putting on weight as well due to being really hungry and have had mood swings. I'm going to give it until it's been in for 6 months (next month) to see if things settle down but if not I may get it removed.

The weight gain is so hard to deal with, for me it's the hardest. Try cutting out the carbs so you don't feel so hungry. I am starting cambridge diet this week again, lost 6 stone on that before. I just have no control over what goes into my mouth anymore, and I am getting so big. But the implant is worth it for me because I don't want no more kids. lol

Does it really hurt getting it put in and taken out?? I'm supposed to be getting one soon and am nervous as heck. Doc took me off the pill because of high blood pressure, didn't want the coil - would rather have pain in my arm than my insides :o

Least I know what to look out for I guess, and can get it taken out if I need to. Hubby has offered to have a vasectomy if there are any problems :)

Having it put in doesn't really hurt. I was PETRIFIED because I hate needles and the thought of having this THING in was scary, but I swear to you, the only thing you feel is the injection that numbs the area. You don't feel anything afterwards!
You hear a click once they've put it in, bit like the sound of a clicky pen lol. THAT made me jump lol as I wasn't expecting it lol.

    Good luck :)

No idea what it feels like to have out, having mine out on Thursday :j:j:j

Has anybody had the Nexplanon implant?

That's the one I'm due to get in.

I guess from reading this thread it's obvious that it works for some, but not others so impossible to tell if it's going to be any good.

I'm just going to go with it, give it a few months and decide for myself. :)

See i have got the choice of the implant or the coil. The main thing with either is having them put in though

God i have given birth 3 times you would think this decision would be easy :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

i have a mirena coil and have put on some weight but not much really, but would probably have put weight on anyway as I got older. the only irritating side effect for me is that I often feel bloated.

have just received a letter to get a replacement fitted, but dont know whether to try another form or contraception, the implant was something I was considering but am now dithering as to whether to stay with the coil

I've had Nexplanon since December. Side effect wise...bit moody, but then that was the same for the pill for me. Possibly a little weight gain, but it's not something I monitor or worry about. Sex drive better than combination pill was for me. Oh and no periods, which is great for me as I used to get 1-2 days of bad stomach cramps and upset tummy leading to days off work. It sometimes gets sore if you knock it (like a bruise formed from it). So for me it's good.

My friend (had inplanon) had a continual period, spots, anaemia and weight loss. It went deep and she had it took out with difficulty.

Ive had mine for 2 years now and want it removed, I thought it was great the 1st year because I had no periods at all but after a year I started getting them and at one point I was bleeding for 5 weeks in a row. Now Im getting quite heavy periods, never really thought about weight gain but I have got quite big maybe the implant Didn't help.
