Contraceptive Implant.....your views on it

I lasted 3 weeks with my Implanon in before I persuaded the Family Planning Clinic to take it back out. My mood swings and headaches were so bad I thought I would either kill someone or die from a headache the pain was that bad.
Got sterilised last year (aged 29) in the end up. Best thing I've ever done.0 -
I had an awful time on implanon.
My moods were horrendous which was the worst part of it. I coulnt stand being around my loved ones and as the doctor never mentiioned any depressive mood side effects I didn't link it.
Finally after 6 months I figured this was the reason for it and got the awful thin taken out.
Now on the coil which has been fab.
I would never recommend the implant to anyone after my experiences0 -
I loved mine. Had it in for the full 3 years and had about 3 periods in that time and that was right at the end of the 3 years. I had it out as it was at the end of its life and we wanted to TTC.
I would recommend it to anyone! I am pregnant now and once this one is born I will be having it in again.0 -

:j Im getting mine out on monday thank god!!!!!!
It has been awful; moods, weeping, hot flush kind of sweats, spots, headaches and bleeding galore. Oh and weight gain which I was gutted about as I never put any on during pregnancy and nothing is budging it!
I hate the damn think cant wait to go back on the pill, only went on it after recommendation after having my last baby.0 -
I have found this thread really interesting so thanks to everyone. I have had Implanon for 6 years (on my 2nd one). I have periods whenever they feel like turning up, Could have nothing for 12 weeks and then two in 3 weeks. I have gained about 3 stone as my appetite is massive and I am eating the wrong things and my sex drive has vanished and I feel lethargic all the time. I must admit though apart from the periods I didnt think of the other things as being side effects of the implant.
I am having it taken out next month as it is due for a change. I have decided to not get another one put in as we will be trying for a baby possibly. I will report back and see how I feel after having it out! xxxPay Debt by Xmas 16 - 0/12000

I used to be on the mini pill then I got an implant about 1 year ago. Best choice I made. No periods or any side effects and I don't have to remember to take anything. :j0

I can only speak from Mrs G's experience but contraceptives, more than anything else, seem to affect everybody in different ways. What works for one woman will not necessarily work for another and vice versa. For example, Mrs G switched to the Mirena coil following a very positive recommendation from her sister (whose only side effects were weight loss and bigger boobs) but it just didn't agree with her at all.
A lot of people are very happy with an implant, you might be one of the lucky ones.0 -

i agree with this (although i am a guy as well) it does seem to vary from person to person, such as my wife, who is on the coil, this is her second one, the first was fab no side effects that i noticed, very light bleeding for 2 days max and no mood swings, took it out to have a wee one and has since had another one put in.
this second one however is causing no end of problems (in my mind) and although i think she would be better changing to something else she has been stubbon as 'the other one worked', this one however is causing on average very irregular 10 days heavy bleeding , mood swings etc only major thing she hasnt had is weight gain.
really it seems that most people have some sort of 'horror' story about one of the options so it is just a case of trying them out to see what works for youDrop a brand challenge
on a £100 shop you might on average get 70 items save
10p per product = £7 a week ~ £28 a month
20p per product = £14 a week ~ £56 a month
30p per product = £21 a week ~ £84 a month (or in other words one weeks shoping at the new price)0 -
Thanks guys, thinking about it last night I think I'll go ahead and just hope Im one of the lucky ones!
Can always get it taken out if needs be!Sealed Pot Challenge Member 151
