I have no ides. Heres a link to Rochdale's CBL site... http://www.rbhhomechoice.org.uk/... Have a look through the "previous lets", plenty of flats there attracting less than 10 bids ang eventually going to non priority applicants. Perhaps you should try it, if you want social housing. Not everywhere is like London, you know.

I do live in London and do find it quite abhorrent that there are "professional spongers" getting the equivalent of 2 or 3 thousand pounds per month to support a lifestyle they have chosen, to be funded by others who have no say where their hard earned goes. To me it is wrong and should not be encouraged.

So what is it you are saying, i should now be moving to rochdale ?

If i went to my local council and asked for a house it would be a wasted journey as i am a single working man so i am at the back of the queue, single mothers have most of the council houses in my area and most of the 1 bed flats are given to the men who dont work or have an "illness".

I dont want social housing so i dont know why you have slipped that little bit in.

Try Preston then, same story there. http://www.selectmove.co.uk/Data/ASPPages/1/12.aspx I'm sure I could find plenty more in the North West, if you like?
As a single person with no children, of course you won't qualify for a HOUSE (unless it is a 1 bedroom house), but you being a man and working will make no difference. Maybe YOU should try, rather than relying on those "friends" telling you not to bother. Oh, I see you don't want social housing. In which case, why do you even care?

Clearly, you wouldn't swap with them, so it can't be all that good, can it?

Wouldn't be offered to me, too old to knock out 4 or 5 kids now.

Early March lets. One week. 3 flats with only 1 bid each. http://www.selectmove.co.uk/Data/ASPPages/1/12.aspx?LettingCycleID=198
The longest waiting applicant applied last October, less than 6 months wait. The most recent was Feb this year, so they didn't even have to wait a month... What are YOU waiting for?

I didn't see the programme but hope to sometime next week on the iPlayer. I haven't read all the posts on this thread.

    My view is that...

Instead of making people work longer, let them retire sooner. This would free up jobs for the younger generation (and reduce wage costs as younger people would work for less money in many cases).

Reduce the working week to 30 hours. This would make more jobs available and there would be little reason for people not to work.

Larger employers should provide accommodation for their workers and retirees.

Single mums should not be rewarded with social housing. It is the parents' responsibility to provide for their children, not mine.

Prisoners should pay £9K per year via prisoner-loans (similar to student loans).

    GG

What's all the bleeding fuss about then?

Also, maybe ive misunderstood, but it's a bit odd that you're happy to be paid to install kitchens for these parasites. Doesn't that just make you a willing part of the supposedly corrupt system you're complaining about? Perhaps instead you should set up a political party and get voted into power by exposing this terrible scandal, then you can have all the single mothers thrown into a pit or something.

Spoiler alert. They chose a city with one of the longest waiting lists for housing and chose, as examples, people who hadn't even been bothered to notify the housing provider that their circumstances had changed. Hardly any surprise that they have been waiting so long. And hardly the fault of anyone but themselves.

Regardless of whether they get social housing, the actual cost to the taxpayer is the benefits they receive. Quite possibly cheaper to give them social housing th to pay for them to rent privately. The alternative is to dump them on the streets, which isn't going to happen.

Most single mothers don't choose to be. To punish the lot because a few take the !!!! is pointless and counter productive.
