All fraud levels are estimates since those committing fraud invariably don't tell the state they forgot to be included in the figures.

Can I be blunt. You seem to have some issue regarding benefit fraud and some sections of society. The reality is those such people are likely to care little for the views of people like you and are likely taking advantage of their ill gotten gains rather than justifying their existences on these threads. Your efforts may be better employed in another domain. Judging from some of your language, the Conservative Party perhaps. The people in fear of changes to disability benefits aren't likely to be the well set up and organised criminals who can jump through the hoops to get what they want but vulnerable people who fear for their future.

The reality is that if your income is from benefits then you have no option but to rent as you will be unlikely to afford/or obtain a mortgage to own your own home.

It's a shame that those genuinely in need have to suffer now because lazy, greedy people have exploited those flaws.

I'm tempted to say you may have to... because the posts keep getting deleted.

Did you bother to read the report? Those are estimates! DLA fraud levels haven't been measured for 6 years.

Source? And if what you are saying is true, that also means you have no facts to back up your widely exaggerated claims that disability benefits are the number one choice for council house fraudsters.

The fact is that disability benefits remain the lowest on the fraud scale. Anyone can clearly see your claims are unsubstantiated and ignorant borne from that chip on your conservative shoulder.

    Muttley - excellent post. :T

I see nothing mentioning six years, but the preliminary estimates are based on actual expenditure and other figures, therefore they are very unlikely to be far out and more likely to be VERY accurate.

Please read the meaning of preliminary.....which is what these estimates are. The fact is you are wrong, its simples!

    government figures accurate

Hmmm its based on actual expenditure - additionally, government figures are what you are basing your claims on also - having worked for the dwp. I am beginning to wonder how many claimant's files may have been compromised in order for you to claim that the majority of disabled council house tenants are fraudulent.

I think the dwp need to ensure that their employees have no unautherised access to files and even more, subsequent employees do not post their claimed findings about supposed benefit scrounging disabled council house tenants on public forums, after all you must have really gone into their databases to know what you claim.

This thread would be a good example to send them.

This looks something along the lines of a "discussion", which I thought wasn't permitted on this section.

I used the term professional because that is how they earn their living, I wasn't trying to imply there was a chartered institute of benefit scroungers or any form of organised gangs involved.

There are lot of organised gangs committing benefit fraud apparently.

DLA is not an out of work benefit, so any fraudsters may or may not be working, it makes no difference, a fraudster is a fraudster working or unemployed.

The impact of this is to stigmatise people on benefits,
and we should be deeply worried about that

If you work for the DWP then you must be aware that, up until recently, with the credit squeeze, quite a few building societies would give mortgages to those on long term IB and DLA etc., - provided the benefit wasn't means tested, it could be used a 'stable income'.

So, not ALL benefit claimants are tenants.

I believe there are still a couple of BS that still do - but a broker would be the best person to advise (and it would obviously depend on deposit etc.,)
