  • I've found my way here by doing what a lot of people did and googling a company that cold called me. First thing they did wrong was discus my husbands credit cards with me (I'm not on them and they aren't a joint account) so for starters I'm sure it's illegal to ask someone to take action and make a payment on a credit card that doesn't belong to them? Secondly don't even get me started on the fee - they want £450 for each credit card they look at plus 10% of the amount of money they audit (ie balance owed on the card) plus VAT. So if you owed £10,000 on 2 credit cards you would actually pay them £2280 - quite a substantial sum - money better off spent paying the debt.
  • Like so many others, I was cold-called, and hassled into agreeing to 2 claims (one with MBNA). I had every intention of cancelling before the end of the cooling-off period, which I did, but money had already been taken from my credit card to pay for the service.
In the meantime I followed Martin's advice and letter template and wrote direct to MBNA for paperwork originally signed and received a copy within 12 days, showing that I had legally agreed to PPI.
Numerous (unanswered) emails and phone calls to CR followed, and suffice to say, today, after the original cold call on 29th July, I have been told that a refund cheque was processed last Thursday (29th September) and I have a Royal Mail tracking number. That number has not yet been registered with RM but I will keep trying. Fingers crossed, and hopefully it will be a full refund. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't be drawn in - it's easy to do the investigation yourself following Martin's advice.

  • Well, wonder of wonders, I got home from work last night to find a recorded letter (signed for by my postie!!!!) with a cheque for the whole amount of refund from CR, along with a letter apologising for the delay. So for the cost of some interest on the card from which the payment was taken, it's a lesson well learnt. Never again.

I've just had a successful claim on my Halifax mortgage contract from Consortium, I thought about doing it myself but never got around to it. My auntie told me about this them - I filled a form out on the website and now I'm a few thousand pound better off. Only took a couple of months aswell. I've got no complaints about them
  • There will always be people saying to use them, but just stop and think for a second. These people posting replies could very well be employees of theirs.

Look at how many people say use them, then take a look at how many say dont use them, it is up to you, it is your choice.

I am speaking from personal experience with Consortium Reclaim, I got suckered in by them, I took the phone call at around 6:30pm on the 13-10-11, they took my details and immediately charged my card, at 7:45pm they charged me their full amount.

I thought about it for a night and rang the following day 14-10-11 to cancel, once again you get passed from pillar to post as to who you are speaking to, they again try and give you the hard sell, so that you wont cancel. After approx 15 minutes, I finally got through to them that I wanted to cancel. I was then informed that it would take 28 days to sort out a full refund.

On a side note, why do you think they do that??

Simple answer, with them holding your money, they are getting interest on it as it is in their account

So I rang back after the 28 days, which was yesterday 11-11-11, after already speaking to my credit card company to find that I had not received my refund. Well what a conversation that was, they gave me the whole rubbish that it had been delayed etc... one woman told me it would take 28 working days. I was then told that it would take a week for them to raise the cheque

So after a very long debate with them they have finally agreed to send me the cheque out on Monday and that I will receive it on Tuesday.

I will let you know if I receive it on Tuesday.

My personal opinion is to not trust this company, again just think why they talk about the delays, if you dont ring up nothing happens, it is not in their best interest to chase it as they are making money off YOUR money.

Companies like this in my opinion prey on the vulnerable, people who are already in a difficult situation, who are looking for a way to ease their financial situation, personally, after being suckered in by these guys with their hard sell, do not have any dealings with them as they will make your financial situation a whole lot worse.

I hope this thread helps at least one person, if it does, then I have done what I set out to achieve

I will keep you posted on my own personal events.

So you are a lazy fool who has paid them a large amount of money for doing nothing.
I filled a form out on the website
Which you could have got from the FSA website
and now I'm a few thousand pound better off.
No - you are WORSE off because you have not got all the money that you would have received.
Only took a couple of months as well.
No different to what it would have been if you had done it yourself.
I've got no complaints about them
That is because you are a lazy fool.
what does that tell you about Consortium Reclaim??
Nothing I didn't know already - but it tells me you are a fool.
  • I too got caught off guard by this company. I am usually very wary of anything like this, but they told me to go to a government website to prove that they are legit and also that if they didn't win I would get all my money back, so I agreed to let them try. They put £1400 on to the credit card that they are trying to write off and I waited to hear from them. After some time, they contacted me to say that my credit card had been deemed unenforceable and that I would receive a legal pack in the post. I have now received the legal pack from a company called Credit Clear Services Ltd (CCS) and it mentions a breach of schedule 6 of section 127(3) of the Act and also section 77 (78) of the Act. The catch is that to continue this further, they want me to sign 3 pieces of paper, which say that in direct response to this progression, they conclude that the introducing Claims Management Company (Consortium Reclaim) has conducted and fulfilled their service to me and therefore, I waive any right to a refund or restitution in acceptance of them completing the claim to this stage. They also want a cheque for £149 for barrister fees. I telephoned them and they say that they won't be asking for any other money from me and that I can't just stop this progressing now and get my original money back, so I am in a catch 22 situation. I am really worried about this, but feel that I now have no choice but to pay them £149. Does anyone have any advice to give me on this. Thanks.
