  • Hi to all you lovely people.
Good day today, I finally managed to get my 3st shiney. Woo Hoo. :j
Have sepent the rest of the day packing for my hols, off tonight for a good few weeks. Will try to minimise the damage, but to be honest, when I've been to sunnier climes before, I don't tend to do to badly. I think it's a combination of drinking loads more water, and having a super healthy diet, and all that swimming must help.

Hi, I'm getting confused with fruit and syns. I know that if you eat whole fruit its free (depending on what fruit) but if you chop it up it has syns, why? The thing I can't get my head round is that you are sort of chopping it up when you eat.

Blackberry, I can't do it without the WI to kep me on track either. I'm struggling with maintenance at present.
My consultant BOASTS about my maintenance abilities - it's when I decide to lower my target that I struggle. I continue to maintain:D
Thanks for the reply, I must say SW seems all most too easy, reading through it is hard to see why I weigh 14st 5 at 5ft 10inch, I love all the free food and we cook most of our own food. Currently inundated with raspberries and plums form the allotment.

I suppose the reasons for the weight are, in order

booze - I like Cider and it seems a real no no on SW. Also partial to wine - I quite often have a few drinks on a week night.
cheese - love it, we cut of chunks and suck till nothing there.
crisps and choclotae bars - usually have one of each each day at work, as well as a pastry in the morning.
overeating - finishing my own plate then polishing off the kids dinner

oh god, now i write it down it does not seem quite so mysterious!

agree with other posters though, no point doing a diet and then going back to your old ways, has to be a change in life style, lets see how I get on!
Braders: Cider certainly isn't a no-no! It's not too high in syns for a half, I know cos i looked the other day. Dry cider that is. You could mix it into a cider-shandy with sugar free lemonade and make it go further. Re the cheese, I used to be an addict too. What "cured" me was (1) buying low fat cheese, it's simply not the same to snack on and (2) cutting the cheese up immediately I get home into small chunks, 28 g or 28x2 g as theres 2 of you. Freeze the rest and take out of the freezer as needed. Hope this helps. I can't advise re chocolate because that is still my syn of choice :D

Now, TIE's post about the dog knocking her over reminded me of my near-disaster last night. I've been sleeping on cushions on the floor for weeks with my poorly old cat; afraid he will wobble and fall off the bed if we are on there. From choice he likes to snuggle (nice word) or manoeuvre (not so nice) me until I am on the floor and he is on the cushions and the memory-foam pillow. Last night he woke me so I could go for a week :rotfl: and when I came back he was sprawled across the pillow, feigning sleep. I gave him a little shove, stepped onto the cushions, wobbled, and headed down bumfirst for the pillow. The cat moved faster than he had for weeks! I couldn't get to sleep for ages, I kept giggling. I don't think the cat thought it was so amusing :rotfl:Still, its a much smaller bottom than would have squashed him a year ago.
    :jThat's 2 stone 9 lbs gone forever:j

    thank you Slimming World!
  • Groovygirl, you are ok chopping the fruit, it's mashing or liquidising that leads to syns. we can only imagine it's because it makes it sooooo much easier to eat lots of it. However, if you are just mashing a banana for a sandwich I would go ahead. If you put a banana, an apple, a peach, some raspberries and strawberries and a pot of yoghurt into the blender and make a pint of smoothie you will drink it in five minutes and it would have taken 2 hours/half a day to eat the fruit, if you see what I mean. Remember too if you cook fruit, eg rhubarb, apple, it is synned. Not many, but some.

    Hi guys.
    I think I need a bit of encouragement/a kick/some lovin' before I quit!

I'm so disappointed with how slowly the weight is coming off. I did SW a few years ago and the first stone just dropped off, then I was averaging 4-5lbs every fortnight. This time its just slow.

What am I doing wrong?! I don't even do the orange days because I understand why the food combining should work and the mix of red/green seems like cheating to me!!
    Help!

I feel exactly the same Copperjar, you're not alone, the first time i did SW i lost 3 stone in as many months, this time it's took me forever to lose just over a stone. I think the main advice would be to re-read all the literature and make sure you aren't "tweaking" things that you got away with last time - i know i'm a b*gger for this!! In the next few days i intend to get all my books out and look at the actual rules about following SW instead of thinking i know them.. i may even try and do the 7 day plan on the website..

Well done losers :T and to everyone getting some shineys - a big big well done xx

    Hello WendyMK, braders, Cherry72

We go to Brighton on a mini-break next week and i haven't even lost 1lb of my intended target..:o bit annoyed at myself but life took over once again. I shall be good until we go so I can at least lose a bit of weight and then hopefully do enough walking whilst we're there to negate any "naughty" food we have!

Off to do myself a menu and the most crucial part - stick to it!!

Ohhhh, i get it. Thank you.

I'm getting back into SW, got the new book but am finding that alot of items I'm trying to find out syn values for are not in there. So I'm back and forth between new and old books.

We as a family are doing it, my husband has lost a stone, son & myself 1/2 stone in 1 month. Well pleased with ourselves. :)

:wave:braders, good luck with having your lunches at work. I find that eating out is the hardest part of SW. Just thought I'd mention that JP and beans/tuna do need some SFs with them to 'count' on EE. So a bit of garnish wouldn't be enough. You'd need to take fruit as well. Keep posting!

Well done Susie on getting back on the target sofa. I hope there's room there as I will join you, but I don't think it will be this week.:o

Great lunch at my friend's today but totally flexi. It was a great day so they did a barbecue and salads. Sounds innocuous but I had sausages (3), chicken (I don't think with skin), lovely salads and potatoes but all in mayo/dressing followed by a pear and walnut tart (with sponge in it), cream and washed down with chardonnay and champers. But I enjoyed it:D and tomorrow I get back on the wagon.

WI tomorrow but not expecting much, just no gains I hope:(
