Over the Garden fence - May's Monthly Chat Thread

Hello Beanie, nargle and other chatters
Nargle don't your chooks always get shut away? No foxes? or are they in a run but not a house? Ours wouldn't last a night if they were allowed to stay free at night - our latest chooks are so ridiculously stupid (and lets face it no hen is particularly clever) and tame that they'd probably go running up to the foxes asking for food -they do this with one of the cats currently who remains unimpressed at being followed and have approached the dogs several times, I'm amazed they have so far lived to spend another day playing chicken!
How are things with you Beanie?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
Tixy - our 2 chickens are in an Eglu (a modern design henhouse and run from Omlet - check out their website for piccies , we have a green one but you can get them in all colours.) Normally during spring, summer and early autumn we leave the Eglu door open at night, but during the winter and any time the night temperature drops really low, we shut the door. From the Eglu they can only get out into the enclosed run, and it is very secure.
Butti - "over the garden fence" refers to what happens when 2 good neighbours are out in their back gardens and stand by the garden fence (which is the boundary between the two houses) and have a jolly good old natter, gossipping away and putting the world to rights. That is how I see the general "chat" threads. One life - your life - live it!0 -

Butti~Having previosly been a Pres Officer for many years I know only too well how the 15 hours can be endless depending on who you are paired with.
Sadly I can no longer cope with the long day.
Have you just got the AV vote?
We also have election to Scottish parliment.
Hope all goes well tomorrow.
Thanks Beanie. we have two lots of elections and one lot of referendum - I think that means I get paid more though - more money for the grey hairs I'll pick up tomorrow. Just about to go down and have a look at the ballot papers. My council never show the training video just talk you through it and say 'It will all be ok'! Then you can't remember what you are marking because you haven't been able to visualise it.
Will also go for an NSD tomorrow.

I hope you managed the NSD you planned, how do you think the vote will go for AV?If you see someone without a smile, give them one of yours0
-
I did my NSD. Not needed for count today so no excuse not to do my assignment
.
The turnout was amazing so I thought it was going to go for AV, but it appears that may be my district or even just my polling station (retired, middle and upper middle class folk and the sun was shining all day!) I can't believe we had the chance to tweak the voting system to a more fair one and it looks like we may not have taken it.
Must go.

I was also a polling clerk and had the worst turn out out of all the ones that I have done (8 in total). I was so bored in the morning, also cold and tired! It did pick up in the afternoon and evening but was still slow, and eventually the caretaker came back and sorted out the heating for me, so ended up being really toastie!
I did the count yesterday as well - I enjoy that bit. We had 52316 people vote on the AV and we counted 52316 which is amazing to be spot on and this caused the regional office to say they had to have a look at whether they would want a re-count  so it seems if you do well, they find that a bad thing. Luckily they agreed to leave it as it was because having had such a long day on Thursday and then again on Friday counting, I was brain dead. I certainly slept well last night and I am just chilling here at the moment.
Have booked a massage for this afternoon as I knew polling and counting would have a bad effect on my back, so for once I was organised and pre-booked it.OD [STRIKE] £2600 [/STRIKE] £0 :j Loan [STRIKE]£9500.00[/STRIKE] £0 :j Car [STRIKE]£3150[/STRIKE] £0 :j Moving Costs [STRIKE]£1300[/STRIKE] £0 :j Savings £1150 :j
